A novel spectrophotometric method for the determination of copper ion by using Salophen Ligand, N,N ′-disalicylidene-2,3-diaminopyridine
In this study, a novel, selective and highly sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of copper(II) by using a new chromogenic reagent N,N′-bissalicylidene-2,3-diaminopyridine (H2IF). The absorbance is measured at λmax 414nm. Experimental conditions were optimized and Beer’s law was observed in the concentration range 6.35- 318μgL−1 of copper. The molar absorptivity of the complex was calculated and found to be 1.46×105 L mol–1 cm−1. The detection and quantification limits were calculated and found to be 6.38μgL−1 and 21.27μgL−1 respectively. The calculated relative st...

Antiplasmodial activities of ethanol extracts of Euphorbia hirta whole plant and Vernonia amygdalina leaves in Plasmodium berghei-infected mice
Publication date: Available online 28 March 2017 Source:Journal of Taibah University for Science Author(s): E.I.O. Ajayi, M.A. Adeleke, T.Y. Adewumi, A.A. Adeyemi The African continent is rich in both flora and fauna resources which have been extensively used locally in the treatment or cure of a wide variety of ailments. Enquiries into traditional folklore revealed that Euphorbia hirta and Vernonia amygdalina possess, among others, antiplasmodial properties for the treatment of febrile conditions. We therefore investigated the phytochemistry, antimalarial potencies, hepatic and renal toxicities of the crude ethanol ...

The effects of pressure and temperature on the exchange energy of a parabolic quantum dot under a magnetic field
Publication date: Available online 29 March 2017 Source:Journal of Taibah University for Science Author(s): Faten BZOUR, Ayham SHAER, Mohammad K. ELSAID The combined effects of pressure and temperature on the energy levels of a parabolic GaAs quantum dot under a magnetic field had been studied. The exact diagonalization method had been used to solve the two electron quantum dot Hamiltonian and to obtain the eigenenergies. In addition, we have investigated the effects of pressure and temperature on the singlet-triplet exchange energy ( J = E T − E s ) of the quantum dot as a function of a magnetic field. The magne...

A numerical scheme for solutions of a class of nonlinear differential equations
Publication date: Available online 29 March 2017 Source:Journal of Taibah University for Science Author(s): Şuayip Yüzbaşi In this paper, a collocation method based on the Bessel functions of the first kind is presented to compute the approximate solutions of a class of high-order nonlinear differential equations under the initial and boundary conditions. Firstly, the matrix forms of the Bessel functions of the first kind and their derivatives are constructed. Secondly, by using these matrix forms, collocation points and the matrix operations, nonlinear differential equation problem is converted to a system of nonlin...

Solution of a system of delay differential equations of multi pantograph type
Publication date: Available online 30 March 2017 Source:Journal of Taibah University for Science Author(s): Sara Davaeifar, Jalil Rashidinia A collocation method is proposed to obtain an approximate solution of a system of multi pantograph type delay differential equations with variable coefficients subject to the initial conditions. The general approach is that, first of all the solution of the system has been expanded according to First Boubaker polynomials (FBPs) basis. Then, by employing the matrix operations and collocation nodes, the original problem and the associated initial conditions are reduced to a nonlinea...
