An active-set trust-region algorithm for solving warehouse location problem
Publication date: Available online 25 May 2016 Source:Journal of Taibah University for Science Author(s): B. El-Sobky, Y. Abo-Elnaga, L. Al-Naser In this paper, an active-set strategy is used together with a penalty method and a trust-region technique to solve a warehouses location problem. The trust region is used to modify the local method in such a way that it is guaranteed to converge at all even if the starting point is far away from the solution. The trust-region method is a well-accepted technique in nonlinear optimization to assure global convergence and is more robust when they deal with rounding errors....

Qualitative properties of certain non-linear differential systems of second order
Publication date: Available online 24 May 2016 Source:Journal of Taibah University for Science Author(s): Cemil Tunç, Yavuz Dinç In this paper, we study the boundedness and square integrability of solutions in certain non-linear systems of differential equations of second order. We establish two new theorems, which include suitable sufficient conditions guaranteeing the boundedness and square integrability of solutions to the considered systems. The presented proofs simplify previous works since the Gronwall inequality is avoided which is the usual case. The technique of proof involves the integral test, and two ...

Weighting order and disorder on complexity measures
Publication date: Available online 21 May 2016 Source:Journal of Taibah University for Science Author(s): José Roberto C. Piqueira The initial ideas regarding measuring complexity appeared in computer science, with the concept of computational algorithms. As a consequence, the equivalence between algorithm complexity and informational entropy was shown. Attempting to connect these abstract formalisms to natural phenomena, described by Thermodynamics, the maximum disorder of a system would correspond to maximum complexity, a fact incoherent with the intuitive ideas of natural complexity. Considering that natural comp...

Water Body Extraction and Change Detection Using Time Series: A Case Study From Lake Burdur, Turkey
In this study spatiotemporal change of Lake Burdur in the period 1987–2011 was evaluated using the multi-temporal Landsat TM and ETM+ images. Support Vector Machine (SVM) classification and spectral water indexing including Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI), Modified NDWI (MNDWI), and Automated Water Extraction Index (AWEI) were used for the extraction of surface water from image data. The spectral and spatial performance of each classifier was compared each other using the Pearson's r, the Structural Similarity Index (SSIM) and the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). The accuracy SVM and satellite-derived indexes were...

In this study we developed QSAR models for anti-proliferative activity of the pyrazolo-triazole hybrids [(1-benzyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)(1,3-diphenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl) methanone] on human brain cancer (U87MG), lung cancer (A549), prostate cancer (PC-3), and colon cancer (HT-29) cell lines. We employed the K-means cluster analysis to split the data sets. Statistically robust models were generated [ pIC 50 (U87MG): R =0.873, Q 2 =0.554, R 2 pred =0.866; pIC 50 (A549): R =0.879, Q 2 =0.637, R 2 pred =0.858; pIC 50 (PC3): R =0.953; Q 2 =0.850; R 2 pred =0.796; pIC 50 (HT-29): R =0.962, ...

Determination of trace amounts of Brown HT as a food dye by CPE-Scanometry method
In this study, trace amounts of Brown HT was extracted, preconcentrated and determined by cloud point extraction-scanometry (CPE-Scanometry) as a simple, fast and inexpensive method. The procedure is based on CPE of Brown HT from aqueous solution, diluting the extracted surfactant-rich phase with ethanol to 500μL, transfering of proper volume of it to Plexiglas® cell and scanning of cells. Then the color of each cell was analyzed by the software written in visual basic (VB 6) media to red, green and blue values. Effective parameters on the extraction efficiency such as pH of the system, the concentration of the surfactan...

The temperature dependence of the glass transition activation energy was determined using an isoconversional kinetic analysis. The compositional trend of the activation energy provides evidence of a transition from floppy to rigid network regimes separated by an intermediate phase. The variations of the activation energy with re...
