Thermoluminescence dosimetry using natural calcite
Publication date: Available online 10 November 2015 Source:Journal of Taibah University for Science Author(s): Yassin A. Abdel-Razek The TL dosimetric characteristics of the natural calcite from El Bakriya, Eastern Desert, Egypt, were studied to investigate their feasibility for use in gamma radiation dosimetry. The peak that appeared at the temperature of 283°C on the TL glow curve was found to have a linear response to the doses over the range of 0.05 to 1000Gy, especially after being annealed at 600°C for 5h before irradiation. Neither annealing nor irradiation changed the activation energy of the traps that pro...

Antioxidant and Inhibitory Properties of Clerodendrum volubile Leaf Extracts on Key Enzymes Relevant to Non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus and Hypertension
Conclusion The inhibitory properties of phenolic rich extracts on α-amylase, α-glucosidase, ACE, Fe2+- and sodium nitroprusside- induced lipid peroxidation in pancreas could be attributed to the antioxidant properties of the extracts and their phenolic composition. The stronger action of the bound phenolic extract on α-glucosidase may provide the possible bioactivity at the brush border end of the intestinal wall. This study may thus suggest that the leaves may represent a functional food and nutraceutical in the management of Non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus and Hypertension. The AlgebraA(E)
Publication date: Available online 10 November 2015 Source:Journal of Taibah University for Science Author(s): Sabra Ramadan Given a locally convex algebra E, we shall construct a vector space A(E) on which multiplication is defined on it. We will show the multiplication so defined on A(E) is associative and that there is a natural embedding of the sets E and its dual space E * in to the vector space A(E). This embedding allows to carryover the operations(linear and bilinear) defined on E and E* to the algebra A(E). Finally we discussed and derive some results about A(E) when E=S(R), the space of functions of rapid d...

Removal of Basic Fuchsin dye from water using mussel shell biomass waste as an adsorbent: Equilibrium, Kinetics, and Thermodynamics
Publication date: Available online 10 November 2015 Source:Journal of Taibah University for Science Author(s): Mohammadine El Haddad The current study focused on the equilibrium, kinetics, and thermodynamics of Basic Fuchsin dye adsorption from aqueous solution using mussel shells as an adsorbent. Optimum adsorption conditions were identified by varying the solution pH, adsorbent dose, initial dye concentration, and contact time. Equilibrium data were fitted by the Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models, and a pseudo-second-order model best described the kinetics. Thermodynamic data showed that...

Determination of magnesium by the solution scanometric method in a coloured titan yellow magnesium hydroxide complex form
Publication date: Available online 10 November 2015 Source:Journal of Taibah University for Science Author(s): A. Shokrollahi, K. Hemmatidoust, F. Zarghampour In this work, the magnesium content was determined by the solution scanometric method using titan yellow (TY) as a complexing agent in alkaline media. This method is based on scanning a solution containing the pink-coloured product of the combination of TY and the magnesium hydroxide complex. Hydroxylamine hydrochloride (HA) and starch were utilized as colour stabilizers and protective colloids, respectively. After the cells containing the sample solution w...

Influence of Operating Variables on the Transesterification of Waste Cooking oil to Biodiesel over Sodium Silicate Catalyst: A statistical approach
This study examined the use of surface response methodology to investigate the influence of operating variables on the transesterification of waste cooking oil (WCO) to biodiesel over sodium silicate catalysts. The individual and interactive effects of three variables namely, reaction time, reaction temperature and amount of catalyst was evaluated using full 23 (+1) factorial design. The conversion of WCO to biodiesel was achieved through the transesterification reaction over the catalyst at a methanol-to-oil molar ratio of 6:1 in a batch reactor. Physicochemical properties of the sodium silicate catalyst were obtained usi...

Synthesis of Bisimidazolium–Ionic Liquids: Characterization, Thermal Stability and Application to Bentonite Intercalation
In this study, a convenient method was developed for the synthesis of bisimidazolium salts and bisimidazolium–ionic liquids. The products were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), mass spectroscopy, elemental analysis and thermogravimetric analyses (TGA). The effect of the counter ion, alkyl chain length and structural isomerism on the thermal stability of the bisimidazolium salts was investigated. Ionic liquid-treated bentonite clays were prepared by ion exchange of the bisimidazolium cations with Na-bentonite. These new organoclays were characterized by X-ra...
