The relationship between coronary artery disease and pericoronary epicardial adipose tissue thickness
Conclusions There is an association between pericoronary EATT and CAD, as well as CAD risk factors. Pericoronary EATT measurement may become a widely used, easy-to-perform method for determining CAD risk. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Biomarkers and pharmaceutical strategies in steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head: A literature review
The underlying pathology of steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is unclear but is known to be multifactorial. It is therefore difficult to find a single predictive biomarker for this disease, and multiple biomarkers are likely to contribute to ONFH progression. Investigation of protein–protein interactions is vital in order to elucidate fully the pathogenesis of this disease, and provide new treatment strategies. This review article discusses the known biomarkers and current treatment strategies for ONFH. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Acute promyelocytic leukaemia with a PML-RARA insertional translocation and a chromosome 21 abnormality in XYY syndrome: Case report
This report presents a case of acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL) with the promyelocytic leukaemia-retinoic acid receptor alpha (PML-RARA) gene insertional translocation and a chromosome 21 abnormality in a 29-year-old XYY male patient. Karyotype analysis revealed an abnormal karyotype of 47,XYY [14]/46,XYY,–21[16]. Fluorescence in situ hybridization and reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction analysis showed the existence of a PML-RARA fusion gene. The patient was treated by all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and chemotherapy. Laboratory results revealed that the coagulopathy improved and the patient achi...

Complete resolution of avascular necrosis of the human femoral head treated with adipose tissue-derived stem cells and platelet-rich plasma
We report a case of a 43-year-old man with early stage (stage 1) avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head treated with adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ASCs) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP). ASC-containing stromal vascular fraction was mixed with PRP and hyaluronic acid. This mixture was then injected into the diseased hip under ultrasound guidance. The affected hip was reinjected weekly with additional PRP for 4 weeks. The patient was followed-up with sequential magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans at 3, 18, and 21 months after treatment, together with Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) Walking Index, Functional Rating In...

Results of 10-year follow-up of the iliac donor site of graft patients
Conclusion The iliac donor site showed a declining trend in pain, which appeared to have started 3 years postoperatively. Long-term follow-up showed that the ilium is readily able to repair itself. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Factors associated with specific uropathogens in catheter-associated urinary tract infection: Developing a clinical prediction model
Conclusions Clinical prediction rules developed for identifying specific groups of bacterial uropathogens in patients with CA–UTI had a low sensitivity, whereas those for fungal infections showed good discriminatory power. Further studies to develop more refined and sensitive tools for predicting specific bacterial uropathogens in CA–UTI are warranted. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Emergence delirium is related to the invasiveness of strabismus surgery in preschool-age children
Conclusions Preoperative anxiety was not related to ED in preschool-age paediatric patients undergoing strabismus surgery. The incidence and severity of ED was higher in patients who underwent more complicated strabismus surgery, compared with those undergoing simpler procedures. Co-prevalence of carotid stenosis and coronary artery disease in Chinese patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation
Conclusions The prevalence of CAD was 32.3% in Chinese patients with PAF. Carotid stenosis and CAD co-occurred in 7.8% of patients, and the prevalence of carotid stenosis correlated with the severity of CAD. Screening of carotid stenosis is recommended, especially in patients with PAF and multivessel CAD. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Comparison of emergence times with different fresh gas flow rates following desflurane anaesthesia
Conclusions These results suggest that there is the potential to predict emergence time based on fresh gas flow rate following desflurane anaesthesia. It should therefore be possible to use a low-flow technique during the emergence period, in addition to the maintenance period, without delaying recovery if the inhaled anaesthetic is stopped at the predicted time before the end of surgery. Relationship between expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 and adenylyl cyclase-associated protein 1 in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Conclusions This study demonstrated an inverse relationship between CAP1 and MMP-9 expression, and high expression of MMP-9 and low expression of CAP1 in those with COPD compared with the non-COPD group. Overexpression of MMP-9 in lung tissue and its interaction with CAP1 is likely to play a major role in airway obstruction in COPD. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)
