Intensive Care Infection Score - A new approach to distinguish between infectious and noninfectious processes in intensive care and medicosurgical patients
Conclusions
In the ICU, particularly for postoperative patients, ICIS is a reliable marker for the timely identification of infection. ICIS may qualify as a new decision support tool for antibiotic therapy, when interpreted within the clinical context. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Associations between ADRB1 and CYP2D6 gene polymorphisms and the response to {beta}-blocker therapy in hypertension
Conclusions
The ADRB1 1165G > C gene polymorphism and β-blocker treatment duration are independent factors associated with β-blocker treatment outcome. These findings suggest that the selection of antihypertensive therapy should take into consideration the patient’s genotype. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

The association between thyroid autoantibodies in serum and abnormal function and structure of the thyroid
Conclusions
Thyroid autoantibodies were common in the general population. Women with thyroid enlargement, hypoechogenicity and heteroechogenicity might benefit from routine screening for thyroid autoantibodies and thyroid function. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Leptin levels and lipoprotein profiles in patients with cholelithiasis
Conclusions
Patients with cholelithiasis have higher leptin levels and an altered lipoprotein profile compared with controls, with increased leptin levels being associated with increased Lp(a) and ApoB levels, and decreased ApoA-1 levels, in those with cholelithiasis. The efficacy of fat emulsion and normal saline for bile leakage tests during hepatic resection: A randomized trial
Conclusions
Fat emulsion then saline identifies more leakage points after the first test than saline then fat emulsion. There is no difference in the total number of leakage points detected, regardless of which method is used first. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)
