Anodal transcranial direct current stimulation over the auditory cortex improved hearing impairment in a patient with brainstem encephalitis
Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) can alter cortical excitability, and has been effective in treating some neurological disorders. This case report describes the use of tDCS in a 13-year-old female who developed bilateral hearing impairment after brainstem encephalitis when she was 6 years old. Her auditory function was more impaired in her right ear than her left. Anodal stimulation (1 mA) was applied for 10 min to the left auditory cortex once per day for 4 consecutive days to improve her right ear speech discrimination score. Sustained and significant improvement in maximum speech discrimination was observe...

Sjögrens syndrome complicated with Fanconi syndrome and Hashimotos thyroiditis: Case report and literature review
We report a unique case of Sjögren’s syndrome complicated with Fanconi syndrome and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis in a 53-year-old Chinese woman, initially found to have proteinuria, fatigue and multiple old costal fractures. Distal tubular dysfunction is the most common renal damage in Sjögren’s syndrome, while Fanconi syndrome (which is caused by proximal tubular dysfunction) and Hypothyroidism are rare complications of Sjögren’s syndrome. Multiple pulmonary metastases in recurrent intracranial meningioma: Case report and literature review
We report here a 59-year-old man with multiple pulmonary metastases from a recurrent intracranial meningioma. The primary intracranial tumour in the left occiput was totally excised in 2009. Pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of atypical meningioma and adjuvant radiotherapy was given to help prevent recurrence. However, recurrence occurred in the left occipital region in 2011 and the meningioma was re-excised in 2012. At the same time, multiple metastases in the right pulmonary lobe were found and excised 3 months after the second craniotomy. The patient has not developed any further recurrence or metastases ...

Incidence and clinical features of paediatric vasculitis in Eastern China: 14-year retrospective study, 1999-2013
Conclusions The most common primary vasculitides in this population of children from Eastern China were HSP and KD; other vasculitides were rare. Paediatricians should be suspicious of vasculitis when there is evidence of systemic inflammation and multisystem disease that cannot be explained by one specific disorder.
