Diagnosis of a granular cell tumour at the abdominal wall using fine needle aspiration cytology and histology: Case report
This case report describes the use of fine needle aspiration cytology to diagnose a granular cell tumour (GCT) that presented as a painless, palpable mass at the abdominal wall in a 50-year-old woman who had had the mass for ≥1 year prior to presentation. Routine haematoxylin and eosin staining of the cytological smears demonstrated that the specimen was predominantly cellular; it contained both cell clusters and single cells with abundant granular cytoplasm and indistinct cell borders. Cells were fragile and had fairly uniform naked nuclei that were scattered with vacuolated and prominent nucleoli. Background material ...

Effect of blood-sugar limitation on intensive care mortality: Intragroup evaluation
Conclusions Euglycaemia was associated with lower ICU mortality than dysglycaemia, and incidence of hypoglycaemia was low overall in this study. Based on current published evidence, therapeutic targets should be defined according to individual patient characteristics. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Changes in cuff pressure and position of cylindrical-cuff and tapered-cuff tracheal tubes during laparoscopic abdominal surgery
Conclusions The tapered cuff was associated with a smaller change in cuff pressure during laparoscopic cholecystectomy than the cylindrical cuff, and therefore may be associated with increased preservation of tracheal mucosal perfusion. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Expression of delta-like 4 (Drosophila) and vascular endothelial growth factor A in colon cancer and association with tumour angiogenesis
Conclusion High levels of DLL4 expression were closely related to metastasis and prognosis in patients with colon cancer. The results of the present study support the conclusion that prognosis of colon cancer is significantly correlated with angiogenesis. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Investigation of interleukin-12, interleukin-17 and interleukin-23 receptor gene polymorphisms in alopecia areata
Conclusion The IL17 GG genotype was associated with susceptibility for alopecia areata, but this genotype was only present in a small number of patients. The IL12 and IL23R gene polymorphisms were not found to have a significant association with alopecia areata. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Development of a cervical cancer progress prediction tool for human papillomavirus-positive Koreans: A support vector machine-based approach
Conclusions Use of the web-based prediction tool may help to increase patient compliance with physician advice, and may heighten awareness of the significance of regular follow-up HPV examinations for the prevention of cervical cancer, in Korean women predicted to have heightened risk of the disease. High-mobility group box 1 protein activating nuclear factor-{kappa}B to upregulate vascular endothelial growth factor C is involved in lymphangiogenesis and lymphatic node metastasis in colon cancer
Conclusions HMGB1 immunohistochemical staining was significantly associated with lymphangiogenesis and lymphatic node metastasis in colon cancer. There was evidence that HMGB1 upregulates VEGF-C by activating NF-B in a colon cancer cell line. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

The role of the induction of mild hypothermia in adult patient outcomes after cardiac arrest: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies
Conclusions On the basis of this limited data set, mild hypothermia does not improve mortality rates or neurological outcomes in patients with ROSC after cardiac arrest, regardless of the timing of the hypothermia. Larger trials need to be carried out to confirm these findings. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Correlation between changes in thyromental distance and distance of migration of oral Ring-Adair-Elwyn tubes during neck extension with a shoulder positioner in patients undergoing neck procedures
Conclusion Oral RAE tube migration was not significantly correlated with the change in external TMD. Due to their large variability, changes in TMD were not useful predictors of RAE tube migration. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)
