Increased 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine in leukocyte DNA from patients with type 2 diabetes and microangiopathy
Conclusions Leukocyte oxidative DNA damage was high in patients with type 2 diabetes and microangiopathy. Presence of microangiopathy was associated with leukocyte 8-OHdG levels, duration of type 2 diabetes, albuminuria and use of ACE inhibitors/ARBs or insulin. Effects of different anaesthetics on cytokine levels in children with community-acquired pneumonia undergoing flexible fibreoptic bronchoscopy
Conclusions In children with community-acquired pneumonia, use of sevoflurane was associated with lower circulating IL-6 and IL-10 levels compared with propofol, following FFB. Pneumonia severity is reflected by higher blood cytokine levels, thus, sevoflurane may be more beneficial to recovery from community-acquired pneumonia than propofol, however further studies are required to test this hypothesis. Impact of effect-site concentration of propofol on cardiac systolic function assessed by tissue Doppler imaging
Conclusion Although the recommended dosage for propofol is up to 4.0 µg/ml, caution should be taken when using propofol concentrations above 2.0 µg/ml during TIVA in patients with underlying cardiovascular diseases. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Association between ECE1 gene polymorphisms and risk of intracerebral haemorrhage
Conclusions These results indicated that the ECE1 rs212528 and rs213045 polymorphisms had no major role to play in the genetic susceptibility to ICH, although rs212528 might influence blood pressure in patients with ICH. (Source: Journal of International Medical Research)

Specific behavioural phenotype and secondary cognitive decline as a result of an 8.6 Mb deletion of 2q32.2q33.1
Chromosomal abnormalities involving 2q32q33 deletions are very rare and present with a specific phenotype. This case report describes a 37-year-old female patient with 2q32q33 microdeletion syndrome presenting with the characteristic features, but with the addition of secondary cognitive decline. Molecular karyotyping was performed on the patient and her parents. It revealed an 8.6 megabase deletion with the proximal breakpoint in the chromosome band 2q32.2 and the distal breakpoint in 2q33.1. The deletion encompassed 22 known genes, including the GLS, MYO1B, TMEFF2, PGAP1 and SATB2 genes. The observed deletion was confirm...
