CYP19 and ESR1 gene polymorphisms: response of the bone mineral density in post-menopausal women to hormonal replacement therapy.
CONCLUSIONS: In the present study, we have demonstrated that CYP19 gene polymorphism is able to influence the effect of 1 year HRT on LS-BMD with no influence on pre-/ and post-/HRT LS-BMD differences. Although ESR1 gene polymorphism is not able to influence the LS-BMD after 1 year HRT, it influences the observed modifications during the year of therapy. These data underlie the complexity of the genetics of the bone mass and its importance in influencing the response to HRT. Strontium ranelate improves delayed healing of osteolytic lesions of the jaw in a man with chronic osteomyelitis. Case report.
We report the case of a man with osteolytic lesions of the right mandible due to chronic osteomyelitis, with delayed healing after six months of antibiotic therapy. Bone disorders in children and adolescents with chronic HCV infection.
CONCLUSIONS: The higher number of cases of osteopenia/osteoporosis in children than in adolescents is worthy of note, although not statistically significant. Ultrasound densitometry confirmed its important early diagnostic role in asymptomatic HCV infected children; moreover, also the increase in serum levels of osteocalcin may be considered as early marker of osteodystrophy of complementary value.
