Generic vs brand originator alendronate: analysis of persistence and compliance in five Local Healthcare Units in the Lombardy Region of Italy.
CONCLUSIONS: Off-patent generic drugs appear to be a therapy option of choice in Italy as well, both for the National Health Service and for citizens. Chronic low-dose glucocorticoid inhalatory therapy as a cause of bone loss in a young man: case report.
We present the case of a young man with precocious bone loss. His improper and irregular use of corticosteroids at low dose was finally recognized as the underlying cause of his unexplainable bone demineralization. Strontium ranelate in fracture healing and joint pain improvement in a rheumatoid arthritis patient.
We report a 62-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis who suffered a periprosthetic fracture of the femur. After five months of treatment with systemic administration of strontium ranelate, she achieved pain-free ambulation and near union of the aforementioned fracture. In addition, she reported a significant improvement of her polyarthralgia, so that she could stop taking analgesics for her underlying condition in the second month of strontium ranelate therapy. An unusual case of hypercortisolism with multiple weight-bearing bone fractures.
We report a 52-year-old woman presenting with multiple stress fractures of the lower extremities, despite various osteoporosis therapeutic regimens. Investigations led to the diagnosis of hypercortisolism of pituitary origin. Pituitary surgery was unsuccessful, justifying a treatment of ketoconazole.
