National clinical practice guidelines for food allergy and anaphylaxis: an international assessment
ConclusionsThis study concludes that the overwhelming majority of countries do not have any national clinical practice guidelines for food allergy or anaphylaxis. (Source: Clinical and Translational Allergy)

Diagnosing allergic sensitizations in the third millennium: why clinicians should know allergen molecule structures
AbstractDiagnostic tests to detect allergic sensitization were introduced at the end of the nineteenth century but only in the late 1990s did the advent of molecular allergology revolutionize the approach to the allergic patient. Personalized Medicine, a medical procedure that separates patients into different groups with different medical decisions, practices and interventions has sanctioned this change. In fact, in the last few years molecular allergology and the observation that not every patient has the same allergic profile, even when allergic to the same allergenic source, has originated the concept “one size does ...

Endotype-driven treatment in chronic upper airway diseases
AbstractRhinitis and rhinosinusitis are the two major clinical entities of chronic upper airway disease. Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and allergic rhinitis (AR) affect respectively up to 10 and 30% of the total population, hence being associated with an important socio-economic burden. Different phenotypes of rhinitis and CRS have been described based on symptom severity and duration, atopy status, level of control, comorbidities and presence or absence of nasal polyps in CRS. The underlying pathophysiological mechanisms are diverse, with different, and sometimes overlapping, endotypes being recognized. Type 2 inflammation...

Health Related Quality of Life among schoolchildren aged 12 –13 years in relation to food hypersensitivity phenotypes: a population-based study
ConclusionsIn this population-based study, 12 –13 year old children reported good HRQL regardless of having food hypersensitivity or not. However, the children with the current phenotype reported lower HRQL than the other phenotypes. (Source: Clinical and Translational Allergy)

Food allergy in a child with de novo KAT6A mutation
We present the first reported case of a DBPCFC confirmed food allergy in a child withKAT6A mutation whose feeding problems resolved with elimination diet. The present case does not establish proof of cause, but highlights the importance of careful clinical diagnostics despite other possible causes for feeding problems. Recognizing that early feeding problems these patients regularly have might be caused by food allergy is important for outcome and quality of life for these patients. The impact of penicillin allergy labels on antibiotic and health care use in primary care: a retrospective cohort study
ConclusionsIn primary health care Pen-A labels are associated with increased antibiotic use, including second choice antibiotics, and more health care use. (Source: Clinical and Translational Allergy)

Multi-morbidities of allergic rhinitis in adults: European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Task Force Report
This report has been prepared by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Task Force on Allergic Rhinitis (AR) comorbidities. The aim of this multidisciplinary European consensus document is to highlight the role of multimorbidities in the definition, classification, mechanisms, recommendations for diagnosis and treatment of AR, and to define the needs in this neglected area by a literature review. AR is a systemic allergic disease and is generally associated with numerous multi-morbid disorders, including asthma, eczema, food allergies, eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoE), conjunctivitis, chronic middle ear eff...

Quality indicators for the acute and long-term management of anaphylaxis: a systematic review
ConclusionsThere is a need for a comprehensive set of quality indicators for anaphylaxis management. We have however identified some indicators for the acute and long-term management of anaphylaxis that could with relatively little additional work support efforts to translate guideline recommendations into clinical care. Allergic respiratory disease (ARD), setting forth the basics: proposals of an expert consensus report
ConclusionsThe present study highlights gaps in current asthma and rhinitis guidelines and addresses specific aspects of ARD, such as global assessment of both asthma and rhinitis or the specific role of variable allergen exposure in the clinical expression of the disease. Application of the adverse outcome pathway (AOP) concept to structure the available in vivo and in vitro mechanistic data for allergic sensitization to food proteins
ConclusionThe application of the AOP concept to structure mechanistic in vivo and in vitro knowledge has made it possible to identify a number of methods, each addressing a specific KE, that provide information about the food allergenic potential of new proteins. When applied in the context of an integrated strategy these methods may reduce, if not replace, current animal testing approaches. The proposed AOP will be shared at thewww.aopwiki.org platform to expand the mechanistic data, improve the confidence in each of the proposed KE and key event relations (KERs), and allow for the identification of new, or refinement of ...

Early childhood risk factors for rhinoconjunctivitis in adolescence: a prospective birth cohort study
ConclusionDifferent patterns of associations were revealed when stratifying rhinoconjunctivitis in allergic and non-allergic suggesting that allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and non-allergic-rhinoconjunctivitis are different phenotypes. (Source: Clinical and Translational Allergy)

The state of asthma epidemiology: an overview of systematic reviews and their quality
ConclusionsWe present a comprehensive overview with an indexed database of published systematic reviews in asthma epidemiology including quality scores. We highlight some topics including active smoking and pets, which should be considered for future systematic reviews. We propose that our search strategy and database could be a basis for topic-specific overviews of systematic reviews in asthma epidemiology. (Source: Clinical and Translational Allergy)
