Connection of the Posterior Occipital Muscle and Dura Mater of the Siamese Crocodile
In conclusion, a myodural bridge‐like structure exists in reptiles. This connection may act as a pump to provide cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulation at the occipitocervical junction. We hypothesize that a physiologic role of the Siamese crocodile's myodural bridge may be analogous to the human myodural bridge. Anat Rec, 2016. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The predentary bone and its significance in the evolution of feeding mechanisms in ornithischian dinosaurs
This study aims to re‐evaluate these hypotheses as well as provide in‐depth qualitative comparative descriptions of predentary bone morphology in ornithischian genera throughout all subclades, including heterodontosaurids, thyreophorans, ornithopods, and marginocephalians. Descriptions evaluate overall shape of the predentary, its articular surfaces contacting the rostral ends of the dentaries, and the morphology of the rostral extent of the dentaries and their midline symphysis. Functionally relevant morphologies in each predentary morphotype are accentuated for further speculation of feeding mechanisms. Three predent...

The pectoral fin muscles of the coelacanth Latimeria chalumnae: Functional and evolutionary implications for the fin ‐to‐limb transition and subsequent evolution of tetrapods
ABSTRACT
To investigate the morphology and evolutionary origin of muscles in vertebrate limbs, we conducted anatomical dissections, computed tomography and kinematic analyses on the pectoral fin of the African coelacanth, Latimeria chalumnae. We discovered nine antagonistic pairs of pronators and supinators that are anatomically and functionally distinct from the abductor and adductor superficiales and profundi. In particular, the first pronator and supinator pair represents mono‐ and biarticular muscles; a portion of the muscle fibers is attached to ridges on the humerus and is separated into two monoarticular muscles, ...
