Autoimmune Arthritis in M énière's Disease: A Systematic Review of the Literature
Successful management of patients with M énière's Disease (MD) involves understanding the pathophysiology of the disease and its comorbidities. The role of autoimmune diseases (AD) in MD remains unclear. The aim of this study was to further investigate the association between MD and AD. Specific goals were to characterize the prevalence, distribution, clinical and laboratory findings, and outcomes of autoimmune arthritis (AA) in MD. (Source: Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism)

Chronic tophaceous gout as the first manifestation of gout in two cases and a review of the literature
Acute gout is a common arthritis that may eventually develop into chronic tophaceous gout (CTG). CTG usually is manifested by recurrent gout attacks. The diagnosis and treatment of CTG is challenging. Although the emergence of CTG without previous gout attacks is uncommon, it is important to recognize this unusual gout presentation. An association of smoking with serum urate and gout: A health paradox
The potential effect of cigarette smoking on levels of serum urate and risk of gout has been considered by a large number of studies, either as the primary variable of interest or as a covariate. (Source: Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism)

An association of smoking with serum urate and gout: A health paradox
The potential effect of cigarette smoking on levels of serum urate and risk of gout has been considered by a large number of studies, either as the primary variable of interest or as a covariate. Here we systematically review the published evidence relating to the relationship of smoking with serum urate, hyperuricaemia and gout. Many studies have reported that smoking reduces serum urate, however the evidence has not been conclusive with other studies pointing to the opposite or no effect. It has also been suggested that smoking reduces the risk of gout, although there is some evidence to contradict this finding. (Source:...
