Intracerebral hemorrhage with a favorable outcome in a patient with childhood primary angiitis of the central nervous system
We present the case of a boy with cPACNS that previously suffered an ischemic stroke. At the age of 7 years and 10 months, he presented a sudden and severe headache, vomiting and reduction in consciousness level (Glasgow coma scale 7), requiring prompt tracheal intubation. Brain computed tomography demonstrated intraparenchymal hematoma in the right parieto-occipital lobe and a small focus of bleeding in the right frontal lobe, vasogenic edema, herniation of the uncus and a 10 mm deviation to the left from the midline. C-reactive protein (9.2 mg/dL) and von Willebrand factor (vWF) antigen (202%) were elevated. Decompressiv...

Swimming and cycling do not cause positive effects on bone mineral density: a systematic review
ABSTRACT Osteoporosis is considered a common metabolic bone disease and its prevalence is increasing worldwide. In this context, physical activity has been used as a non-pharmacological tool for prevention and auxiliary treatment of this disease. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effects of cycling and swimming practice on bone mineral density (BMD). This research was conducted in accordance with the recommendations outlined by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. The studies were consulted in the period from 2004 to 2014, through major electronic databases: PubMed ®,...

Low vitamin D serum levels in diffuse systemic sclerosis: a correlation with worst quality of life and severe capillaroscopic findings
Conclusion: The present study provides novel evidence demonstrating that low levels of 25OHD have a negative impact in diffuse SSc QoL and further studies are needed to define whether vitamin D supplementation can improve health related QoL in these patients. The additional observation of a correlation with severe NC alterations suggests a possible role of 25OHD in the underlying SSc vascular involvement.RESUMO Objetivo: O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a correla ção entre os níveis de vitamina D e parâmetros clínicos, densidade mineral óssea (DMO), qualidade de vida (QV) e capilaroscopia periungueal (CPU) em pa...

Prevalence of anxiety, depression and kinesiophobia in patients with low back pain and their association with the symptoms of low back spinal pain
Conclusion: There was no association between the groups and anxiety and depression. However, there was a positive correlation between kinesiophobia and the Organic group. Studies of other patient samples are needed to confirm the reproducibility and validity of these data in other populations.RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a preval ência de ansiedade, depressão e cinesiofobia e sua associação com os sintomas da lombalgia.

Substance use and sexual function in juvenile idiopathic arthritis
Conclusion: A high risk for substance abuse/dependence was observed in both JIA and controls. JIA substance users were more likely to have sexual intercourse. Therefore, routine screening is suggested in all visits of JIA adolescents.RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar o uso de álcool/tabaco/drogas ilícitas e a função sexual em adolescentes com artrite idiopática juvenil (AIJ) e controles saudáveis.

Familial autoimmunity and polyautoimmunity in 60 Brazilian Midwest patients with systemic sclerosis
Conclusions: From the high prevalence of coexisting autoimmune diseases found in SSc patients, we stress the importance of the concept of shared autoimmunity, in order to promote a continued vigilance and promptly diagnose other possible autoimmune disease in patients , or in their kin.RESUMO Introdu ção: A esclerose sistêmica (ES) é uma enfermidade do tecido conjuntivo de etiologia desconhecida, caracterizada pela tríade de injúria vascular, autoimunidade e fibrose tecidual.

Serum Clara cell 16-kDa protein levels and lung impairment in systemic sclerosis patients
Conclusions: Clara cell 16-kDa protein levels can be considered as a supplemental serum biomarker for systemic sclerosis associated interstitial lung disease.RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a utilidade cl ínica das medições séricas da proteína de células de Clara de 16-kDa (CC16) em relação ao sistema de estadiamento para doença pulmonar intersticial associada a esclerose sistêmica (DPI-ES). O envolvimento pulmon...

18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography and serum cytokines and matrix metalloproteinases in the assessment of disease activity in Takayasu's arteritis
Conclusions: Higher serum IL-6 and TNF α levels as well as higher 18F-FDG uptake in arterial wall are associated with active TA.RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a capta ção de 18F-fluordesoxiglicose (FDG) na tomografia por emissão de pósitrons – tomografia computadorizada (PET-CT) – e os n íveis séricos de diferentes citocinas e da metaloproteinases da matriz (MMP) em pacientes com arterite de Takayasu (AT) e associações com a atividade da doença. Métodos: Foram mensurados os níveis séricos do fator de necrose tumoral- α (TNF- α ), interleucina (IL)-2, IL-6, IL-8, IL-12, IL-18, MMP-3 e MMP-9 em 36 paciente...

Overlap between systemic sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis: a distinct clinical entity?
Conclusions: While the frequency of clinical arthritis observed in patients with systemic sclerosis was 32.8%, the true overlap between of SSc and RA was 6.6% in this study. We also observed the frequency of positive anti-CCP in 20% of patients with arthritis versus no patients with SSc without arthritis.RESUMO Introdu ção: A esclerose sistêmica (ES) é uma enfermidade do tecido conjuntivo de caráter autoimune caracterizada pela tríade de injúria vascular, autoimunidade (celular e humoral) e fibrose tecidual.
