Posterior Double Vertebral Column Resections Combined with Satellite Rod Technique to Correct Severe Congenital Angular Kyphosis
In conclusion, double VCRs are effective to correct severe angular kyphosis, and addition of satellite rods may be imperative to enhance instrumentation strength and thus prevent correction loss. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Atlantoaxial Joint Interlocking Following Type II Odontoid Fracture Associated with Posterolateral Atlantoaxial Dislocation: a Case Report and Review of Published Reports
A rare case of atlantoaxial lateral mass joint interlocking secondary to traumatic posterolateral C1,2 complete dislocation associated with type II odontoid fracture is herein reported and the impact of atlantoaxial joint interlocking on fracture reduction discussed. A 72‐year‐old man presented with traumatic atlantoaxial lateral mass joint interlocking without spinal cord signal change, the diagnosis being confirmed by radiography and 3‐D reconstruction digital anatomy. Posterior internal fixation was performed after failure to achieve closed reduction by skull traction. After many surgical attempts at setting had f...

Robot ‐assisted Anterior Odontoid Screw Fixation: A Case Report
Anterior odontoid screw fixation has been proved to be effective but technically challenging because the difficult approach is associated with high risks of screw malposition and damage to surrounding vital structures. Navigation techniques are therefore increasingly being used to improve safety and accuracy. However, no robot‐assisted odontoid screw fixation has yet been reported. We here report a 61‐year‐old woman with a type II dens fracture on whom anterior odontoid screw fixation was performed under the guidance of a newly developed robotic system (TiRobot, co‐designed by Beijing Jishuitan Hospital and TINAVI ...

Intermittent Cyclic Mechanical Tension Promotes Degeneration of Endplate Cartilage via the Nuclear Factor ‐κB Signaling Pathway: an in Vivo Study
ConclusionThese experiments indicate that ICMT contributes to the activation of NF‐κB signaling pathway in vivo and that the NF‐κB signaling pathway further up‐regulates MMP13, leading to degeneration of endplate cartilage. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Three ‐dimensional Computer‐assisted Modeling of Talus Morphology in Chinese Patients
ConclusionOur method of 3‐D model construction provided precise measurements of the structural features of the talus. The talar dimensions in our Chinese study cohort differ from those previously reported for people of different ethnic groups. Our models should provide accurate reference data for constructing models based on CT images for the assessment and treatment of talar injuries in Chinese patients. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

F11 rs2289252T and rs2036914C Polymorphisms Increase the Activity of Factor XI in Post ‐trauma Patients with Fractures Despite Thromboprophylaxis
ConclusionsHigh activity of factor XI indicates a risk of occurrence of DVT in post‐trauma patients with fractures. F11 rs2089252 and rs2036914 (single nucleotide polymorphisms) are associated with activity of factors XI in such patients despite prophylaxis. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Can an Endplate ‐conformed Cervical Cage Provide a Better Biomechanical Environment than a Typical Non‐conformed Cage?
ConclusionsEndplate‐conformed cages can decrease cage‐endplate interface stress in all directions of motion and increase cervical stability in FLE–EXT. Additionally, adjacent segments are possibly protected because intra‐disc stress and facet loading are smaller after endplate‐conformed cage implantation. However, axial stability was reduced in group C, indicating that endplate‐conformed cage should not be used alone and an anterior plate system is still important in anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. Clinical Evaluation and Gait Characteristics before and after Total Knee Arthroplasty Based on a Portable Gait Analyzer
ConclusionsA portable gait analyzer appears to be suitable for evaluating the effects of TKA. Single support time on the diseased side may be a sensitive quantitative index for determining the effect of TKA and rehabilitation. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Bilaterally Primary Cementless Total Hip Arthroplasty for Severe Hip Ankylosis with Ankylosing Spondylitis
ConclusionsBilateral severe hip ankylosis in patients with ankylosing spondylitis can be treated with cementless bilateral synchronous total hip arthroplasty, which can greatly improve hip joint function and relieve pain without significant complications. Provided the overall physical condition of a patient and their economic situation make surgery a feasible option and the surgeon is experienced, this treatment is a worthwhile surgical intervention for bilateral hip bony ankylosis. However, the technically demanding nature of the procedure and potential pre‐ and post‐operative problems should not be underestimated. (S...

An Alternative Intraoperative Radiographic Method for Optimizing Cup Inclination during Total Hip Arthroplasty
ConclusionsThe IPTA (at the apex of the true acetabulum) and angle θ (obtained by intraoperative fluoroscopy) are consistent in determining the postoperative valgus angle of acetabular prosthesis during THA. Thus, IPTA and angle θ are of value in guiding placement of acetabular prostheses; in particular, this method can facilitate the learning of young surgeons. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Treatment of Distal Femur Nonunion Following Initial Fixation with a Lateral Locking Plate
ConclusionsDefinitive treatment of distal femur nonunion after initial treatment with a locking plate had a low rate of success in this study, suggesting that this procedure is ineffective as a definitive treatment for distal femur nonunion. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Comparison of AO Titanium Locking Plate and Screw Fixation versus Anterograde Intramedullary Fixation for Isolated Unstable Metacarpal and Phalangeal Fractures
Conclusions AIM outperforms ATLPS in the treatment of unstable metacarpal and phalangeal fractures in the early, but not the later, postoperative period; the latter is associated with significantly more complications. Patients treated by ATLPS require shorter sick leave, which is of particular benefit to workers with specialized manual skills. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)
