Anterior and Posterior Instrumentation with Different Debridement and Grafting Procedures for Multi ‐Level Contiguous Thoracic Spinal Tuberculosis
ConclusionPosterior instrumentation was more effective than anterior instrumentation in the correction of kyphosis and the maintenance of the correction. However, postoperative sinus formation was more frequent in patients who underwent a single‐stage posterior procedure. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Correlations of Japanese Orthopaedic Association Scoring Systems with Gait Parameters in Patients with Degenerative Spinal Diseases
ConclusionsThere is a significant correlation between gait parameters and functional disability as measured by the JOA lumbar scoring system, which indicates that the JOA lumbar scoring system can reflect gait impairment. The JOA cervical scoring system, however, may need to be improved for efficiently evaluating the walking ability of CSM patients in the assessment of motor function of the lower extremity. An Analysis of Paravertebral Ossification in Cervical Artificial Disc Replacement: A Novel Classification Based on Computed Tomography
ConclusionsThe novel CT image‐based PO classification system has good intra‐observer reliability. The incidence of PO after Bryan cervical disk replacement is relative high, and the high‐grade PO is mainly distributed at the uncovertebral joint. The high‐grade PO will affect the ROM after surgery; however, it does not affect the neurologic symptoms. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Treatment and Management of Osteoporotic Fractures: A Nation ‐wide Survey of 484 Senior Orthopaedists in China
ConclusionsOur respondents generally adhered to guidelines for the treatment and management of osteoporosis. A significant number had recommended lower dosages of vitamin D and calcium. Some differences exist between the younger cohort and their older colleagues in the prescription of pharmacological therapies. The criteria for initiating therapy should be more holistic and include other factors besides bone mineral density (BMD). Our results demonstrated that more comprehensive guidelines for osteoporosis management and a greater awareness of these guidelines by orthopaedists are needed to enable them to better manage the...

Comparison of Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion versus Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy in the Treatment of Cervical Radiculopathy: A Systematic Review
In conclusion, the PCF was just as safe and effective as the ACDF in the treatment of cervical radiculopathy. Meanwhile, PCF might have lower medical cost than ACDF and decrease the incidence of adjacent segment disease. Based on the available evidence, PCF appears to be another good surgical approach in the treatment of cervical radiculopathy. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Patient ‐Specific Orthopaedic Implants
Patient‐specific orthopaedic implants are emerging as a clinically promising treatment option for a growing number of conditions to better match an individual's anatomy. Patient‐specific implant (PSI) technology aims to reduce overall procedural costs, minimize surgical time, and maximize patient outcomes by achieving better biomechanical implant fit. With this commercially‐available technology, computed tomography or magnetic resonance images can be used in conjunction with specialized computer programs to create preoperative patient‐specific surgical plans and to develop custom cutting guides from 3‐D reconstru...

Influence of Different Boundary Conditions in Finite Element Analysis on Pelvic Biomechanical Load Transmission
ConclusionsThese findings suggest that the effect of the connect condition in the hip joint should not be neglected, especially in studies related to clinical applications. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Effect of Intraoperative Dexamethasone on Pain Scores and Narcotic Consumption in Patients Undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty
ConclusionA single dose of dexamethasone given intraoperatively significantly decreased oral narcotic consumption and decreased pain scores 24 h postoperatively. Dexamethasone appears to be a safe modality to use to control pain in patients undergoing TKA. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Treatment of Medial Malleolus or Pure Deltoid Ligament Injury in Patients with Supination ‐External Rotation Type IV Ankle Fractures
ConclusionMedial malleolus fracture and deltoid ligament injury are two different presentations of supination‐external rotation type IV ankle fractures. Anatomic reduction of the articular surface concurrent with restoration of ankle stability can achieve favorable results for these two injuries. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Comparison of Arthrodesis and Non ‐fusion to Treat Lisfranc Injuries
ConclusionPrimary arthrodesis has advantages compared to primary open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF): reduced foot deformity rates, sustained biomechanical morphology of the feet, reduced complications, higher level of function recovery, shorter time of surgical procedures, fewer complications, higher AOFAS score and fewer frequency of complications. According to our research, primary arthrodesis may be a better choice for treating Lisfranc injury. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Intravenous Combined with Topical Administration of Tranexamic Acid in Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Randomized Controlled Trial
ConclusionsThe combined administration of i.v. and topical TXA resulted in a clinically relevant reduction in blood loss, compared with placebo group. No thromboembolic complications were observed. This randomized controlled trial supports the combined i.v. and topical administration of TXA in primary THA. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Open Dislocation of Ankle without Fracture Treated with an External Fixator
We presented a very rare and interesting case of an open medial dislocation of the ankle without associated fracture in an 18‐year‐old man with no known predisposing risk factors. The patient was admitted to the emergency department after sustaining a catastrophic trampoline accident resulting in severe inversion of the right ankle. The patient was treated with an external fixator and was mobilized early in the post‐surgical course. Despite initial presentation that revealed lack of posterior tibial pulse, the post‐surgical course was uneventful, with full functional recovery and joint mobility. The primary goals o...

Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion Integrated Screw Cages: Intrinsic Load Generation, Subsidence, and Torsional Stability
ConclusionEach stand‐alone cage featured unique surface characteristics, which resulted in differing cage–foam interface engagement, influencing the subsidence and torsional angle. Increased subsidence significantly reduced the torsional angle across all cage constructs. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)
