Chinese Guideline for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head in Adults
The treatment of adult osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), with 8.12 million patients in China, remains a challenge to surgeons. To standardize and improve the efficacy of the treatment of ONFH, Chinese specialists updated the experts' suggestions in March 2015, and an experts' consensus was given to provide a current basis for the diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of ONFH. The current guideline provides recommendations for ONFH with respect to epidemiology, etiology, diagnostic criteria, differential diagnosis, staging, treatment, as well as rehabilitation. Risk factors of non‐traumatic ONFH include corticostero...

Clinical Comparison of Extensile Lateral Approach and Sinus Tarsi Approach Combined with Medial Distraction Technique for Intra ‐Articular Calcaneal Fractures
ConclusionLimited open reduction via the sinus tarsi approach for intra‐articular calcaneal fractures could reduce the incidence of wound complications effectively, and the medial distraction technique is helpful for correcting the calcaneus varus deformity. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Realignment Surgery for Malunited Ankle Fracture
ConclusionsRealignment surgery for a malunited ankle fracture can reduce pain, improve function, and delay ankle arthrodesis or total ankle replacement. Postoperative large talar tilt and advanced stages of ankle arthritis are the risk factors for the surgery. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Prospective Review of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Differentiation into Osteoblasts
Stem cell research has been a popular topic in the past few decades. This review aims to discuss factors that help regulate, induce, and enhance mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) differentiation into osteoblasts for bone regeneration. The factors analyzed include bone morphogenic protein (BMP), transforming growth factor β (TGF‐β), stromal cell‐derived factor 1 (SDF‐1), insulin‐like growth factor type 1 (IGF‐1), histone demethylase JMJD3, cyclin dependent kinase 1 (CDK1), fucoidan, Runx2 transcription factor, and TAZ transcriptional coactivator. Methods promoting bone healing are also evaluated in this review that ha...

Role of Clavicle Chest Cage Angle Difference in Predicting Postoperative Shoulder Balance in Lenke 5C Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Patients after Selective Posterior Fusion
DiscussionClavicle chest cage angle difference could be a reliable predictor for evaluating postoperative shoulder imbalance in AIS patients undergoing selective posterior fusion for Lenke 5C curves. A greater preoperative CCAD was significantly correlated with a postoperative radiographic imbalance of shoulders and dissatisfaction, which will guide spine surgeons in their preoperative planning and in the surgical management of AIS to reduce postoperative shoulder imbalance. Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion in Left ‐sided Inferior Vena Cava and Right‐sided Aortic Arch
We report the case of a 68‐year‐old man who presented with radiculopathy and progressively worsening low back pain despite 9 months of unsuccessful conservative therapy and pain management. Preoperative computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a rare anatomical variation, with an anomalous left‐sided inferior vena cava and anomalous aorta. The patient was surgically treated with ALIF at L 4,5 and L 5 S 1 via an altered surgical window. Given the anomalous anatomy of the patient, instead of performing the procedure after mobilizing both of the transposed abdominal great vessels, the inferior vena ...

Treatment for Thoracic Ossification of Posterior Longitudinal Ligament with Posterior Circumferential Decompression
ConclusionTreatment with posterior transpedicular osteotomy and circumferential decompression was found to be safe, effective, reliable, and technically feasible, and keeping the thoracic cavity intact avoids many shortcomings of anterior surgery and results in a satisfactory spinal decompression. Effects of Unilateral Tourniquet Used in Patients Undergoing Simultaneous Bilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty
ConclusionsTourniquet use in bilateral TKA can reduce intraoperative time but was associated with a higher incidence of wound complications and larger postoperative knee swelling. (Source: Orthopaedic Surgery)

Comparison of Intramedullary Nail Versus Conventional Ilizarov Method for Lower Limb Lengthening: A Systematic Review and Meta ‐Analysis
The objective of this systematic review and meta‐analysis was to compare the lengthening and then nailing (LATN) technique to the conventional Ilizarov method for limb lengthening. A systemic search of potential relevant literature was performed in databases, including the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), PubMed, EMBASE, and the ISI Web of Knowledge, from their inception to 22 May 2015 using medical subject heading (MeSH) terms “Ilizarov,” “bone lengthening,” or “intramedullary nail.” A total of 89 titles and abstracts were preliminarily reviewed, of which 4 studies eventually satisfi...

Postoperative Evaluation of Reduction Loss in Proximal Humeral Fractures: A Comparison of Plain Radiographs and Computed Tomography
ConclusionsOur data reveal that 3‐D CT images are more reliable than plain radiographs in the assessment of the prognostic factors of reduction loss of fractures of the proximal part of the humerus with treatment of locking plates; this reliable CT technique can serve as an effective guideline for the subsequent clinical management of patients.
