Effect of four different finishing and polishing systems on resin composites: roughness surface and gloss retention evaluations.
CONCLUSIONS: The roughness and gloss surface of resin composites depend on the finishing and polishing systems used. This study demonstrates that satisfactory gloss outcomes are obtained using a system based on diamond paste.

The prevalence of peri-implant diseases in patients with metabolic syndrome: a case-control study on an Italian population sample.
CONCLUSIONS: Despite the limited sample, our results showed a statistically significant higher prevalence of peri-implant diseases in patients with metabolic syndrome compared to healthy patients. Further longitudinal studies are needed to verify this relationship.

Non-extraction and multiloop edgewise technique versus orthognathic surgery and fixed appliance in adult class II patients: a cephalometric comparative study.
CONCLUSIONS: Considering the limits of the present sample the following conclusion emerged: in the MEAW group, the malocclusion correction was predominantly dentoalveolar, and a significant profile change was observed. Significant skeletal and occlusal plane changes were obtained with the orthognathic surgery approach.

Efficiency in the correction of Class II division 1 malocclusions with prominent upper incisors and increased overjet: a comparison between two methods.
CONCLUSIONS: The high-pull traction on the Stephenson plate was more efficient and effective than HG in the treatment of Class II dentoskeletal malocclusions with prominent upper teeth and a severe overjet; the overjet reduction was obtained at approximately 6 months, contributing to the substantial Class II correction.

Detection of peri-implant inflammation by the use of a matrix metalloproteinase-8 chair-side test.

Energy dispersion spectroscopy analysis on failed implants: a preliminary survey.
CONCLUSIONS: Based on these preliminary data, EDS automatic mapping may be considered an exciting method to analyze failed implants. Furthermore, the possible future applications in this field, once the bacteria have been identified, could involve a more specific treatment with the aim of remove infected contaminants on the implant surfaces.

Dental hypofunction alters subgingival microorganisms: a pilot study.
CONCLUSIONS: Within the limits of this study, the authors found that the levels of four significant bacterial strains were decreased in both hypofunctional healthy and hypofunctional periodontitis groups compared to normofunctional equivalents. Though not evaluated in this study, this situation could be due to periodontal ligament atrophy and related physiological alterations.

Quality of life after different approaches of orthognathic surgery: a randomized controlled study.
CONCLUSIONS: The study showed evident improvement in quality of life following orthognathic surgery compared to before surgery. However, computer-assisted surgery did not show any significant improvement over the classic approach.

Ectodermal and ectomesenchymal marker expression in primary cell lines of complex and compound odontomas: a pilot study.
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggested heterogeneous behavior for both odontoma cell lines, because in compound odontomas predominant biomarkers are related to the enamel knot, late-stage odontogenesis and ectomesenchymal interactions; and in complex odontoma the significant expression of CD34 and OPN could be responsible for the difference behavior and mineralized amorphous structure.

Accuracy of guided implant surgery: an experimental set-up.
