Variations of the profile of the nose of the upper lip.
CONCLUSIONS: A significant correlation can be seen between the forward movements of the upper maxilla with the outline of the nose, the nasal projection and the Naso-Labial Angle. PMID: 28293940 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Stomatologica)

Comparative assessment of different recycling methods of orthodontic brackets for clinical use.
CONCLUSIONS: The recycling technique by aluminum oxide sandblasting was more effective for reconditioning orthodontic brackets when compared to the other protocols. The reconditioning technique with 10% hydrofluoric acid followed by the application of silane bonding agent may be used as an alternative protocol. Sinus presurgical evaluation: a literature review and a new classification proposal.
Authors: Tavelli L, Borgonovo AE, Re D, Maiorana C Abstract Presurgical evaluation with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) or computed tomography (CT) has become an essential tool for diagnosis and surgical planning, including maxillary sinus floor elevation. Before performing a sinus lift, the clinician's attention should not be only directed to the patency of the ostium through CBCT or CT, because many anatomical features could influence the surgical approach of sinus floor elevation. The goal of this article was to facilitate the communication between clinicians regarding the type of maxillary sinus, ...

Measuring effectiveness of orthognathic surgery by electromyography: a restrospective clinical study.
CONCLUSIONS: Orthognathic surgery improves the muscular activity of patients who present skeletal dental class III malocclusions. This improvement can be objectively assessed with EMG measurements. Patients who benefit more from orthognathic surgery seem to be those displaying the lowest pre-surgical EMG activity. A novel image processing technique for three-dimensional volumetric analysis of severely resorbed alveolar sockets with cone beam computed tomography.
CONCLUSIONS: The currently proposed automated segmentation protocol for the three-dimensional rendering of alveolar sockets showed more accurate results, excellent inter observer similarity and increased user friendliness. The clinical application of this method enables a three-dimensional evaluation of extraction socket healing after the reconstructive procedures and during the follow-up visits. Should incidental findings in diagnostic imaging be reported?
CONCLUSION: The question "should every IF be reported?" is still difficult to answer. Relevant IF are rare, and radiologists are expected to be reasonable: think about the adverse effects of reporting an IF, and, based on their own judgment, choose for a positive or a negative answer. Cyclic fatigue comparison among endodontic instruments with similar cross section and different surface coating.
CONCLUSIONS: Mtwo exhibit a higher NCF thanks to the smaller metal volume contained in their core. Titanium-nitride coating doesn't influence the performance of Easy Shape instruments on static test of cyclic fatigue. In vitro responses of T lymphocytes to poly(butylene succinate)-based biomaterials.
CONCLUSIONS: PBSu and PBSu/TCP composites were non-toxic to T lymphocytes and did not induce unfavorable responses of T lymphocytes. The tested biomaterials down-regulated key proinflammatory cytokine genes and up-regulated anti-inflammatory cytokine genes in T lymphocytes. These suggest that the biomaterials studied are good candidates as bone graft materials. PMID: 27827528 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Minerva Stomatologica)

The effect of a functional appliance in the management of temporomandibular joint disorders in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
CONCLUSIONS: The use of an orthodontic functional appliance determined a significant improvement, at 24 months, in many TMJ signs and symptoms in patients affected by JIA and with TMJ disorders. This study suggests that children and adolescents with JIA which presented either unilateral or bilateral moderate to severe TMJ involvement, if not treated, should be develop severe disturbances during growing. Quantification of the amount of dental material removed by selective grinding in wax dentures with photogrammetric measurements.
CONCLUSIONS: The FM implemented in this article has given satisfactory preliminary results, showing good accuracy, low costs and high versatility. It is necessary to highlight that this is an experimental method and that the present analysis is a pilot study that needs further evaluation. Nevertheless results obtained could be of some value for medical companies, in order to improve the artificial teeth's design and project. Moreover, such a method may serve as educational tool for dental students. PMID: 27711027 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Minerva Stomatologica)

Platelet-rich fibrin: a boon in regenerative endodontics.
Authors: Rebentish PD, Umashetty G, Kaur H, Doizode T, Kaslekar M, Chowdhury S Abstract Research into regenerative dentistry has contributed momentum to the field of molecular biology. Periapical surgery aims at removing periapical pathology to achieve complete wound healing and regeneration of bone and periodontal tissue. Regenerative endodontic procedures are widely being added to the current armamentarium of pulp therapy procedures. The regenerative potential of platelets has been deliberated. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a wonderful tissue-engineering product and has recently gained much popularity du...

CBCT Evaluation of the tridimensional relationship between impacted lower third molar and the inferior alveolar nerve position.
CONCLUSIONS: The 3D reconstruction software provide surgeons with an additional planning tool, offering: immediate and neat visualization of the noble structures that have to be respected and their localization in the three spatial planes; the exact morphology of the relevant root apex; a 360° view of the relationship between the IAN and the third molar and the exact point in which the root is in relationship with the canal.
