The use of a collagenated porcine cortical lamina in the reconstruction of alveolar ridge defects. A clinical and histological study.
CONCLUSIONS: Alveolar reconstruction by means of the collagenated cortical lamina gave promising clinical and histological results. The rigidity and the slow resorption pattern allowed for the blood clot protection even in case of vertical defects, avoiding at the same time the re-entry surgery for its removal. Effect of different mixing methods on the bacterial microleakage of calcium-enriched mixture cement.
CONCLUSIONS: Based on the results of the present study it can be concluded that different mixing methods had no significant effect on the bacterial microleakage of CEM cement. PMID: 27580651 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Minerva Stomatologica)

Functional evaluation in young patients undergoing orthopedical interceptive treatment.
CONCLUSIONS: The evaluation of EMG activity after rapid palatal expansion is important to confirm the adaptation of the neuromuscular system to the new occlusal condition. In this study, the muscular activity was increased after therapy producing important changes in muscular tone. PMID: 27580652 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Minerva Stomatologica)

Comparative analysis of force degradation of latex orthodontic elastics of 5/16'' diameter: an in vitro study.
CONCLUSIONS: It is concluded that the latex elastics studied suffer great intensity variation of initial force, and the higher variation rate occurs in the first 12 hours. PMID: 27580653 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Minerva Stomatologica)

Influence of post-etching surface treatment and thermo-mechanical cycling on fracture strength of ceramics.
CONCLUSIONS: Postetching cleaning protocols do not improve the fracture strength of ceramics crowns. Thermo-mechanical aging did not weakened the ceramic crown. PMID: 27580654 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Minerva Stomatologica)

Mechanobiology of the tooth movement during the orthodontic treatment: a literature review.
Authors: Isola G, Matarese G, Cordasco G, Perillo L, Ramaglia L Abstract Orthodontic tooth movement differs significantly from the physiological tooth movement, as it determines a biological response of the surrounding tissues of the teeth, resulting in a remodelling of the periodontal ligament and the alveolar bone. The result is a biochemical adaptive response to the application of the orthodontic force with the reorganization of the intracellular and the extracellular matrix, in addition to a change of the local vascularization. This in turn leads to the synthesis and the release of arachidonic acid, gr...

Tooth-implant connection in removable denture. A review.
Authors: Melilli D, DAVì G, Messina P, Scardina GA Abstract When the patient cannot be rehabilitated with a fixed denture, or when he does not succeed in adapting to a traditional removable denture, a possible alternative solution consists in the use of a limited number of implants, placed in strategic positions in the arches of the patient, and subsequently connected to their residual teeth. The aim of this review is to evaluate the progress made on connections between teeth and implants in removable denture, to analyze their advantages and disadvantages and to compare the survival rate, both of the teet...

Microbiological analysis of bacterial plaque on three different threads in oral surgery.
CONCLUSIONS: A less plaque retention, and consequently a fewer bacterial presence, is crucial to minimize the inflammatory process and allow a better tissue healing. Since the capability of brushing and, of course, the final personal hygiene is dependent from different variables, we must use surgical protocols able to minimize the effect of improper cleaning on the healing process: this statement implies the use of low plaque retention materials. Suture is the final surgical act and deliver a suture with monofilament or poliglicolic threads can help reducing bacterial concentration and therefore allow a faster and better h...

Prevalence and distribution of oral mucosal non-malignant lesions in the western Sicilian population.
CONCLUSIONS: The high prevalence necessitates adequate awareness of these lesions in the general population. The dental clinicians should also be knowledgeable about the etiopathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of these lesions.
