Honey in oral health and care: a mini review
ConclusionFor the first time this review addresses the usefulness of honey against Streptococcus mutans infections, dental plaque and caries, gingivitis and halitosis. Honey was also useful in preventing side effects associated with treatment of cancers of the head and neck, namely, radiation induced mucositis, xerostomia and poor wound healing. This is well supported by evidence in literature and was examined in this review.Graphical abstract (Source: Journal of Oral Biosciences)

Potential function of TGF-β isoforms in maturation-stage ameloblasts
ConclusionsWe propose that TGF-β is regulated in an isoform-specific manner to perform multiple biological functions such as gene expression related to the structure of basal lamina/ameloblasts, mineral ion transport, apoptosis, and endocytosis in maturation-stage ameloblasts.Graphical abstract (Source: Journal of Oral Biosciences)

Role of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors for modulation of microcircuits in the agranular insular cortex
ConclusionThe activation of nAChRs layer specifically modulates synaptic transmission and plasticity in the mouse agranular insular cortex. These synaptic mechanisms are critical to understand the modulating effects of ACh or nicotine on physiological and pathophysiological functions associated with the insular cortex. Genomic and phenotypic diversity of Streptococcus mutans
ConclusionWe review the current literature on the main processes that generate S. mutans genomic diversity, as well as the phenotypic variability of its main virulence factors. S. mutans achieves its pathogenesis by sensing the intra- and extracellular environments and regulating gene transcription according to perceived environmental modifications. Consequently, this regulation gives rise to differential synthesis of proteins, allowing this species to potentially express virulence factors. (Source: Journal of Oral Biosciences)

Evaluation of Aberrant Metabolism Related Proteins in Oral Submucous Fibrosis: A Pilot Study
ConclusionsThese results indicate evidence of increased levels and alteration in the expression of metabolism-related proteins. Overexpression of these proteins may play an oncogenic role in the proliferative processes and disease progression of OSF. These results serve as a fundamental base for employing these proteins in future clinical applications.Graphical abstract (Source: Journal of Oral Biosciences)

Effects of salt taste disorder on behavior and lifespan in Drosophila melanogaster
ConclusionsThe results of this study suggest that although NaCl taste disorder results in reduced feeding and breeding behaviors in Drosophila, it does not impact lifespan. (Source: Journal of Oral Biosciences)
