Use of Synbiotics for Ulcerative Colitis Treatment.
CONCLUSION: The mechanism of actions in synbiotics supplementation is still unclear and needs more investigation although there are a wide number of data indicating that the synergism between probiotics and prebiotics is able to modulate the inflammatory response through cytokine expression and immune cell modulation induced by probiotic bacteria, that are also able to favour the production of SCFA by prebiotics digestion. SCFA are involved in mucosal barrier stabilization, regulatory T cell induction, promotion of anti-inflammatory cytokines secretion and inhibition of inflammatory factors such as TNF-α. Other: An urgent...

Drug therapies for patients with IgA nephropathy: A network meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials.
CONCLUSION: We observed few interventions to perform better in the management of IgAN. The results of this study will aid in further evaluation of such drugs that may assist in saving the resources and time. However, the readers should interpret the findings with great caution as the results might change with the advent of future head-to-head clinical trials. Effects of Probiotics and Prebiotics on Frailty and Ageing: A Narrative Review.
Abstract Globally, the population over the age of 60 is growing fast, but people age in different ways. Frailty, shown by the accumulation of age-related deficits, is a state of increased vulnerability to adverse outcomes among people of the same chronological age. Ageing results in a decline in diversity and homeostasis of microbiomes, and gut flora changes are related to health deficit accumulation and adverse health outcomes. In older people, health deficits including inappropriate intake, sarcopenia, physical inactivity, polypharmacy, and social vulnerability are factors associated with gut dysbiosis. ...

Systematic review on rocuronium continuous infusion for deep neuromuscular blockade.
CONCLUSION: Continuous infusion for deep NMB presents inherent advantages in terms of maintenance and stability of the muscle relaxation. For that purpose, monitoring and rocuronium administration approaches are fundamental and intrinsically connected. Additional efforts should be placed in further studies to better understand the variability and methodological parameters for an improved maintenance of deep NMB. Tenofovir urine assay to monitor adherence to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
CONCLUSION: The findings of this review confirm the utility of tenofovir urine assay to monitor adherence to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis. Further studies are underway to implement the tenofovir urine assay to monitor adherence and pre-exposure prophylaxis, nationally and internationally. First-in-Human study of the Safety, Tolerability, Pharmacokinetics and - Preliminary Dynamics of Neuroprotectant 2-Iminobiotin in Healthy Subjects.
CONCLUSION: Single and multiple doses of 2-IB up to 6 doses of 6 mg/kg with and without Captisol® were safe and well tolerated in healthy male subjects. 2-IB proved to be a high-clearance drug with volume of distribution slightly exceeding total body water volume, and with linear PK that appeared not be affected by presence of Captisol®. Sulfobutylether-beta-cyclodextrin (SBECD) in Captisol® had a low-clearance profile with small volume of distribution, with time independent PK. Preliminary PD characterization of repeated iv dosing of 2-IB in an acute peripheral hypoxic ischemia model in healthy subjects did not reveal ...

Severe Group A and Group B Streptococcus diseases at a Pediatric ICU: Are they still sensitive to the penicillins?
CONCLUSIONS: Severe GAS and GBS are rare but associated with high mortality and rates of mechanical ventilation and inotropic supports in PICU. The streptococci are invariably sensitive to penicillin. The high PIM2 and Sepsis scores suggest that prompt recognition of sepsis and timely judicious institution of antibiotics and intensive care support may be life-saving for these devastating infections. Efficacy and Safety Curcuma zadoaria L. to inactivate the hydatid cyst protoscoleces.
Abstract Now, surgery is considered as the most reliable method for hydatid cyst treatment. Present protoscolicidal substances used in operating and percutaneous methods have restrictions because of the severe adverse effects for example biliary tract fibrosis, and liver necrosis. Thus, the present work aimed to evaluate the chemical composition of Curcuma zadoaria essential oil and investigate its efficacy and safety against hydatid cyst protoscoleces. Collected protoscoleces from liver fertile hydatid cysts of infected sheep were exposed to different concentrations of the essential oil (35-280 µl/mL) fo...

Awareness and perception of thromboembolism and thromboprophylaxis among hospitalized patients in Jordan.
CONCLUSION: The findings reveal that there is a lack of awareness about VTE and its thromboprophylaxis among the study participants. Patients with lower educational level and those with no history of previous VTE need awareness improvement about VTE and its thromboprophylaxis. Clinical Pharmacists need to focus on providing information about VTE and improving patients' perception about VTE and its thromboprophylaxis with the aim of improving the awareness about VTE, and hence improve health outcome.
