Intravascular Radiocontrast Iodixanol Increases Permeability of Proximal Tubule Epithelium: A Possible Mechanism of Contrast-Induced Nephropathy
Conclusions: Our in vitro data do not support the hypothesis that direct kidney cell death from Iodixanol is a major mechanism of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN). However, increased permeability of proximal tubule epithelium caused by Iodixanol may play an important role in CIN. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Computational Fluid Dynamics Investigation of Chronic Aortic Dissection Hemodynamics Versus Normal Aorta
Conclusions: The FL dilatation at FU favorably reduced TP. In contrast, unfavorable increase in pressure gradient between ascending and DAo was observed with higher values than in the healthy aorta. Maximum WSS was reduced at the site of largest dilation compared to healthy aorta. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Meta-Analysis of the Correlation Between Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency and Multiple Sclerosis
Conclusions: The meta-analysis demonstrated a correlation between CCSVI and MS. However, there was no evidence that CCSVI has a causative role in MS. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Eight Years Experience in the Management of Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome by Decompression, Celiac Ganglion Sympathectomy, and Selective Revascularization
We aim to review an 8-year experience of median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS) with chronic gastrointestinal ischemia (CGI) and evaluate clinical outcomes of arcuate ligament decompression, celiac sympathectomy, and selective revascularization. Between December 2002 and March 2012, of 25 patients referred with symptoms of CGI, 11 patients (10 women and 1 man) had clinical signs of abdominal angina and radiological evidence of MALS. Mean age was 50 ± 20.4 years. Median symptom duration was 34 months. All patients had median arcuate decompression and celiac sympathectomy. In all, 8 did not require revascularization,...

Lower Extremity Amputations: Factors Associated With Mortality or Contralateral Amputation
Conclusions: Patients with advanced PAD that require lower extremity amputation have diminished survival and significant contralateral amputation rates. Elderly patients on dialysis are particularly prone to dying or losing the other leg after a major amputation. These data support strategies to enhance limb preservation and optimize medical comorbidities in these patients. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion: Its Natural History Including Recanalization and Subsequent Neurological Events
Conclusion: Recanalization of ICA occlusion is common and leads to significant neurological events. Duplex ultrasound follow-up appears mandatory. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Cardiac Morbidity of Carotid Endarterectomy Using Regional Anesthesia Is Similar to Carotid Stent Angioplasty
Carotid artery stenting (CAS) was presented by carotid revascularization endarterectomy versus stenting trial as a minimally invasive approach with less risk of postoperative myocardial infarction (MI) when compared to carotid endarterectomy (CEA). Our study aimed to compare the postoperative MI rate for CAS with CEA under general anesthesia (GA) and local anesthesia (LA). A retrospective study was conducted at our institution comparing CAS with CEA under LA and CEA under GA. Thirty-day postoperative MI and strokes were evaluated for the different subgroups. A total of 1127 procedures were included in the analysis: 421 CEA...

Reduction in Allogeneic Blood Products With Routine Use of Autotransfusion in Open Elective Infrarenal Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair
Conclusion: The rIAT reduced the exposure to allogeneic blood products by more than 50%, in particular for patients with AAA larger than 60 mm. These results support the use of rIAT for open elective infrarenal AAA repair. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Cardiac Risk Assessment, Morbidity Prediction, and Outcome in the Vascular Intensive Care Unit
Conclusions: The RCRI’s discriminatory capacity is low, and this raises difficulties in assessing cardiac risk in patients undergoing vascular intervention. The AMI is highest in the OMT group without prior cardiac intervention, which mandates protocols to identify patients requiring cardiac intervention prior to vascular procedures. Delayed Presentation and Management of Blunt Traumatic Inferior Gluteal Artery Pseudoaneurysm With Associated Arteriovenous Fistula
We describe an 82-year-old female with a remote history of a fall presenting with an enlarging buttock mass. Imaging confirmed an IGA pseudoaneurysm with associated arteriovenous fistula that was successfully treated with endovascular embolization. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Cystic Adventitial Disease of the Common Femoral Vein: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
We report on a 52-year-old female patient who presented with a 6-month history of right lower extremity swelling and tenderness. The patient was treated as an outpatient with full anticoagulation, without any improvement. Her medical history was significant for hypertension and high cholesterol, and she had a full coagulopathy profile that was negative for any hypercoagulable syndrome. On examination, the patient was moderately obese, with significant tenderness over the medial aspect of the right groin. A venous duplex examination revealed hypoechoic structure ± acute deep vein thrombosis of right common femoral ve...

Treatment of Primary Infected Juxtarenal Aortic Aneurysm With the Multilayer Stent
Conclusion: Multilayer stent appeared to be an acceptable treatment option for primary infected juxtarenal aortic aneurysms. Aneurysmal sac completely disappeared and visceral branches remained patent at 2-year follow-up. However, longer follow-up is necessary to evaluate the long-term patency of involved visceral arteries. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Spontaneous Renal Artery Aneurysm Rupture in a Patient With Neurofibromatosis Type 1 Without Risk Factors for Renal Artery Aneurysm Rupture
We report a case of spontaneous rupture of a left renal artery aneurysm in a patient with NF-1. A 41-year-old nonpregnant normotensive woman known to have NF-1 presented to our emergency department with left flank pain. Computed tomography showed a large retroperitoneal hematoma due to left renal artery aneurysm rupture. She was treated with selective transcatheter coil embolization and fully recovered.
