Outcomes of Aortic Surgery for Abdominal Aortic Graft Infections
Conclusion: Incidence of abdominal aortic surgery for AGI has progressively declined over the span of our study in association with decreased open and increased endovascular aortic aneurysm repairs. Aortic surgery for AGI is associated with very high morbidity and mortality rates along with prolonged lengths of stay and elevated hospital charges. The outcomes of operations for AGI are better in younger patients and higher volume hospitals. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Diagnosis, Incidence, and Clinical Implications of Perioperative Myocardial Injury in Vascular Surgery
Conclusions: This study emphasizes the high incidence of perioperative myocardial injury and stress in vascular surgery as revealed by the use of the robust and very sensitive biomarker of myocardial damage, hsTnT. The high availability and swift development of increasingly sensitive assays allow detection of abnormal elevated hsTnT levels in a higher proportion of the population. Consequent challenges are the reduced specificity to separate acute events as well as to deduce the prognostic value of elevations due to confusing criteria; this is especially the case in a patient group with multiple comorbidities that affect h...

The Endovascular Preprocedural Run Through and Brief: A Simple Intervention to Reduce Radiation Dose and Contrast Load in Endovascular Aneurysm Repair
Conclusions: By introducing rigorous quality assurance and utilizing the principles of crew resource management to the EVAR process, it is possible to reduce screening times, contrast use, hospital length of stay, and improve endovascular training opportunities. The Prevalence and Regional Variation of Major Depressive Disorder Among Patients With Peripheral Arterial Disease in the Medicare Population
Conclusions: This study documents a correlation between PAD and MDD and may, therefore, identify an at-risk population susceptible to inferior clinical outcomes. Significant regional variation exists in the prevalence of PAD and MDD, though there appear to be specific endemic regions notable for both disorders. Accordingly, health-care resource allocation toward endemic regions may help improve population health among this at-risk cohort. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Surveillance Duplex Ultrasonography of Stent Grafts for Popliteal Aneurysms
Conclusion: Our results suggest that surveillance DU using criteria established for grafts placed for occlusive disease may not be useful for predicting stent graft failure in popliteal artery aneurysms. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Stent Grafts Provided Superior Primary Patency for Central Venous Stenosis Treatment in Comparison with Angioplasty and Bare Metal Stent: A Retrospective Single Center Study on 70 Hemodialysis Patients
Conclusion: Stent graft seems to improve primary patency for central venous stenosis and requires fewer reinterventions in a dialysis population with a high prevalence of long-term catheters. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Management of Iatrogenic Pseudoaneurysms in Patients Undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
Conclusion: Management of pseudoaneurysms in patients prior to CABG should be similar to those patients not undergoing intense anticoagulation. In appropriate cases, small aneurysms can be safely observed, while thrombin injections are effective and safe as well. Thus, routine open surgical repair is not routinely required in patients with femoral pseudoaneurysms at time of CABG. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Does Rapid Diffusion of HbA1c Testing Affect Amputation Rates?
Conclusions: We observed a moderate association of the speed of diffusion of HbA1c testing with the speed of diffusion of lower extremity amputations among Medicare patients with diabetes. Improvements in performance on quality metrics such as HbA1c testing may not immediately translate into tangible patient outcomes. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Coagulation, Fibrinolysis, and Platelet Activation Following Open Surgical or Percutaneous Angioplasty Revascularization for Symptomatic Lower Limb Chronic Ischemia
Conclusion: There is a sparse amount published on the effects of the coagulation and fibrinolytic systems in patients undergoing intervention for CLI. Much of these studies are small, historical, and completely heterogeneous, making it difficult to draw meaningful conclusions. The literature does identify a prothrombotic state in patients with CLI, which appears to be exacerbated by any form of intervention and prolonged in those having surgery. Understanding this may allow us to tailor the intervention offered to patients and prevent limb loss. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Management of Acute Mesenteric Ischemia: A Critical Review and Treatment Algorithm
Conclusion: Endovascular treatment may serve as a first-line therapy for select patients when there is a low suspicion for intestinal necrosis. Open surgery should be reserved for emergency conditions requiring exploratory laparotomy. Hybrid technique may be an especially effective approach for treating AMI, with low morbidity and mortality, although further studies are required comparing it to OS and ET. Superior Vena Cava Obstruction Complicated by Upper Extremity Deep Vein Thrombosis: A Novel Endovascular Approach
We present a case that illustrates a novel technique, which protects the patient from PE while also relieving the SVCO. This involves placing an inferior vena cava filter in an inverted position within a superior vena cava (SVC) stent to capture emboli. This procedure offers a potentially lifesaving endovascular therapeutic option to patients who would otherwise be deemed unsuitable for SVC stenting. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Distal Embolization During Percutaneous Subclavian Artery Intervention
Distal embolization due to atherothrombotic debris during subclavian artery interventions is extremely rare and can usually be managed conservatively. Herein, we describe a case of acute hand ischemia due to massive distal embolization during balloon angioplasty and stenting of a left subclavian artery chronic total occlusion. This limb-threatening complication was effectively treated with rescue surgical thrombectomy. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Endovascular Treatment of Traumatic Pseudoaneurysm of the Superficial Temporal Artery
We describe a case of a traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the STA which was treated with the vascular plug embolization. We conclude that endovascular embolization can be an option in the treatment of STA pseudoaneurysms. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)
