Stent Salvage of Arteriovenous Fistulas and Grafts
Conclusions: Stents can extend patency for the thrombosed or failing arteriovenous access, but results are poor once thrombosis has occurred. Stent placement appears to be more effective in fistulas compared to grafts. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Nationwide Comparative Impact of Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair of Acute Uncomplicated Type B Aortic Dissections
Conclusions: Thoracic endovascular aortic repair for acute uncomplicated TBAD was associated with similar in-hospital mortality, MI, and renal failure as compared to medical management. The TEVAR had higher rate of stroke up to the age 70 years and longer LOS. Because extending TEVAR to less complicated patients could only decrease TEVAR mortality rates, these findings support the more widespread use of TEVAR to treat patients with uncomplicated TBAD. Evaluation of Readmission Rates for Carotid Endarterectomy Versus Carotid Artery Stenting in the US Medicare Population
Conclusions: Interventions for carotid artery disease had high overall readmission rates. After adjustment for comorbidities, utilization of less invasive techniques (CAS) did not result in lower readmission rates. Further evaluation is needed to determine strategies to reduce hospital readmission rates after carotid interventions. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Impact of Angiogenic Therapy in the Treatment of Critical Lower Limb Ischemia in an Animal Model
Angiogenic therapies for critical limb ischemia were tested in a mouse model. The mice were anesthetized and their femoral arteries were ligated. The animals were treated with bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMCs) alone, BMMCs combined with plasmid vector encoding granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), received no treatment, or no intervention (controls). The degree of ischemia was monitored for 4 weeks using a visual scale. Muscle atrophy and strength were assessed at 4 weeks postoperatively; the mice were then killed. In treated animals, total necrosis of the limb was not found, the weight of the gast...

Predictors of Restenosis After Carotid Endarterectomy: 17-Year Experience in a Tertiary Referral Vascular Center
Conclusion: Use of patch and lack of smoking history are associated with less restenosis and longer restenosis-free survival. Use of patch and use of postoperative statin improves overall survival. Although restenosis after CEA is relatively common, reintervention was rarely necessary. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Aneurysmal Degeneration of Deep Lower Extremity Vein Conduits Used for Vascular Reconstruction
Conclusions: Our experience suggests that nonanastomotic aneurysms of FPV grafts may occur more often than those suspected previously. Our study represents the first reports of aneurysmal degeneration affecting FPV grafts when used for vascular reconstructions. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Traumatic Complex Splenic Arteriovenous Fistula Causing Prehepatic Portal Hypertension and Variceal Bleeding: The Importance of the Diagnosis for the Endovascular Treatment Approach
We report a case of a 68-year-old female patient presenting with portal hypertension and variceal bleeding in the absence of any liver disease. After performing a computed tomography angiogram, the cause of her condition was identified to be a splenic arteriovenous fistula (SAVF). After confirming the findings with angiography, we opted to treat the condition with coil embolization as an alternative to a more invasive surgical treatment. Coil embolization of the SAVF was performed successfully resulting in the improvement of the patient’s variceal congestion. Our case highlights the importance of identifying SAVF as ...

Extracranial Internal Carotid Artery Pseudoaneurysm Associated With Neurofibromatosis Type 1 Treated With Endovascular Stenting and Coil Embolization
We report the first case of unruptured extracranial pseudoaneurysm of the ICA in a patient with NF-1 successfully treated with endovascular stenting and coil embolization.A 66-year-old woman diagnosed with NF-1 had sudden left neck pain and massive swelling 3 years earlier. Radiological examination showed a ruptured pseudoaneurysm of the left internal thoracic artery (ITA). The posttreatment computed tomography (CT) scan revealed complete obliteration of the aneurysm of the left ITA and an unruptured pseudoaneurysm of the right ICA. After 3 years of follow-up, a CT scan revealed the enlargement of the pseudoaneurysm of the...

Percutaneous Transcatheter Embolization of Pulmonary Artery Pseudoaneurysms Causing Massive Hemoptysis: Two Different Case Scenarios
We report 2 different case scenarios of massive hemoptysis due to different etiologies, in which the source of bleeding was the pulmonary artery. Both the patients were treated with percutaneous transcatheter embolotherapy using coils. The 2 cases highlight the importance of considering pulmonary arterial etiology as the cause of hemoptysis while reporting diagnostic computed tomography studies and tailoring the interventional technique toward performing pulmonary angiography instead of searching for a systemic arterial source for hemoptysis. Endovascular Repair of Popliteal Artery Pseudoaneurysm With Arteriovenous Fistula After Knee Arthroscopy: Case Report and Literature Review
We report a case of postarthroscopic popliteal artery pseudoaneurysm (PSA) with arteriovenous fistula (AVF; PSA-AVF) in a 53-year-old woman who presented with limb edema, pain, and bruit 1 year after arthroscopic meniscectomy. She was treated percutaneously by covered stent deployment. After 6 months of follow-up, the patient was asymptomatic, with patency of the stent and occlusion of the AVF. A review of the literature was also performed to investigate the prevalence of postarthroscopic PSAs and highlight the endovascular approach of treatment. Endovascular approach with covered stent appears to be less invasive and migh...

Lessons Learned From Endovascular Management of Ureteroarterial Fistula
Stent graft placement for ureteroarterial fistula is the preferred treatment. However, some pitfalls may occur during the procedure. Chronic inflammation process will induce longer adhesion area between artery and ureter, which results in unusual fistula site and rigid iliac arteries. This further leads to difficulty in advancing the endograft delivery system, even when access route is large enough. Multiple attempts to pass the iliac artery may result in "incidental" mechanical provocative angiography with subsequent massive bleeding. These suggested us not only to be careful and prepared but also to consider that angiogr...
