Long-Term Experience of Endovascular Repair for Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms and Dissections
Conclusion: Thoracic endovascular aortic repair is a relatively safe and effective therapy for different aortic pathologies with good long-term success. The risk of stroke and paraparesis is notable whether the LSA is covered, and strokes clearly accumulate in the emergency setting. A type I endoleak is the most common complication, but there are no predictive factors for its development. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Compression Stockings for Prevention of Postthrombotic Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: The present meta-analysis has indicated that compression stockings may not prevent PTS, as determined by either the Villalta or the Ginsberg scale, in patients with DVT. However, owing to the limited number of trials, the evidence is not strong enough to draw a reliable conclusion. Further larger, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trials are needed. (Source: Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Endovascular Aneurysm Repair Increases Aortic Arterial Stiffness When Compared to Open Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms
Conclusion: EVAR patients have a significantly higher postoperative PWV measurement than those undergoing open abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. Patients who have undergone EVAR may be at a higher risk of cardiovascular morbidity in the long term. A larger scale study with a longer prospective follow-up is required. Development of a Duplex Ultrasound Simulator and Preliminary Validation of Velocity Measurements in Carotid Artery Models
Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first simulation of duplex ultrasound that can create and display real-time color Doppler images and Doppler spectral waveforms. The results demonstrate that an examiner can measure PSV from the spectral waveforms using the settings on the simulator with a mean absolute error in the velocity measurement of less than 10%. With the addition of cases with a range of pathologies, this duplex ultrasound simulator will be a useful tool for training health-care providers in vascular ultrasound applications and for assessing their skills in an objective and quantitative manner. Retrograde Approach Using Surgical Cutdown Technique for Limb Salvage in a Case of Critical Limb Ischemia With Severely Calcified Tibial Occlusive Disease
We here report a successful angioplasty for tibial artery occlusion using direct tibial puncture and subsequent retrograde approach under surgical cutdown technique. An 82-year-old man with ulcer/gangrene in first and second digits was referred to our hospital for endovascular therapy (EVT) of lower extremity ischemia. Diagnostic angiogram revealed anterior tibial artery (ATA) occlusion with severe calcification. Subintimal angioplasty was attempted using a 0.014-inch hydrophilic guidewire but was unsuccessful. A retrograde approach was subsequently attempted for ATA recanalization. However, because of severe calcification...

Surgical and Antimicrobial Management of a Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm Due to Q Fever: A Case Report and Brief Review
We report the case of a 36-year-old woman from Iraq who presented with long-standing malaise as well as vague chest and shoulder discomfort and was found to have a saccular aneurysm of the descending thoracic aorta. Serology assays were positive for chronic C burnetii infection. She was treated with successful aneurysm resection and aortic replacement with a rifampin-impregnated Maquet Hemashield (TM) Dacron interposition graft interposition graft in addition to 18 months of doxycycline and hydroxychloroquine. The patient is without evidence of recurrent infection on follow-up at 3 years. To our knowledge, this is the firs...

A Unique Case of Aortic Thrombosis With Elevated Lipoprotein(a)
Aortic thrombosis is a rare condition that can be caused by atherosclerosis, aneurysms, thrombophilia, vasculitis, trauma, and malignancy. Symptoms vary based on thrombus size and site of embolization. It can lead to devastating complications including acute limb ischemia, myocardial infarction, stroke, and other target organ ischemia. Diagnosis is based on clinical presentation, imaging findings, and relevant laboratory work-up. Although not well defined, management for aortic thrombosis includes surgical intervention, such as thromboembolectomy, and conservative measures, such as anticoagulation. Here, we present a uniqu...

Endovascular Treatment of a Dorsalis Pedis Artery Pseudoaneurysm
Pseudoaneurysm of the dorsalis pedis artery (DPA) is an extremely rare entity that most commonly occurs secondary to trauma or surgery. All reported cases describe surgical treatment. We illustrate a case of enlarging DPA pseudoaneurysm causing pain and disability in a 49-year-old woman who was treated with transcatheter embolization and pseudoaneurysm aspiration resulting in near-immediate resolution of symptoms. Prophylactic Placement of an Inferior Vena Cava Filter During Aspiration Thrombectomy for Acute Deep Venous Thrombosis of the Lower Extremity
Conclusions: Thrombus migration occurred frequently during aspiration thrombectomy of patients with acute DVT in the lower extremity. Novel Risk Score Model for Prediction of Survival Following Elective Endovascular Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair
Conclusion: Ten-year survival following EVAR in patients with a high-risk score utilizing the model provided was 40.1%. Patients with multiple comorbidities at risk for decreased long-term survival can be identified with our model, which is more applicable for high-volume contemporary institutions.
