Towards the Integration of Multiple Classifier pertaining to the Student's Performance Prediction
Publication date: Available online 27 April 2016 Source:Perspectives in Science Author(s): Mrinal Pandey, S. Taruna Accurate predictions of students’ academic performance at early stages of the degree program helps in identification of the weak students and enable management to take the corrective actions to prevent them from failure. Existing single classifier based predictive modelling is not easily scalable from one context to another context, Moreover a predictive model developed for a particular course at a particular institution may not be valid for a different course at the same institution or any other in...

Effect of using fly ash as alternative filler in hot mix asphalt
In this study, the effect of using fly ash (FA) in asphalt mixture as replacement of common filler was investigated. For these purpose, samples were prepared for different bitumen content (3.5% to 6.5% at 0.5% increments) by using 2% hydrated lime (HL) in control mix as well as varying percentage of FA ranging from 2% to 8% as alternative filler in modified mixes. The optimum bitumen content (OBC) was then determined for all the mix by Marshall mix design. Experimental results indicated higher stability value with lower OBC for the mixture having 4% FA as optimum filler content in comparison with conventional mix and stand...

Modeling and Control Strategies for Energy Management System in Electric Vehicles
Publication date: Available online 27 April 2016 Source:Perspectives in Science Author(s): Hitesh sharma, Om Prakash Jaga, Sanjay Maurya These days, electric vehicle (EV) is using fuel cell as a prime source of energy because of its high promising performance and clean source of energy. However, due to low dynamic performance it alone cannot meet the fast changing load requirement during acceleration or sudden uphill, deceleration or sudden downhill. Therefore, in electric vehicle main source is used in appropriate combination with auxiliary source. This paper presents a comprehensive state -of-the-art of control...

Cryptanalysis of Wang et al's Lattice-based Key Exchange Protocol
Publication date: Available online 27 April 2016 Source:Perspectives in Science Author(s): Daya Sagar Gupta, G.P. Biswas Wang et al. proposed a new hard problem on lattices which is an extension of the small integer solution (SIS) on lattices. This new generated hard problem is named to be bilateral in-homogeneous small integer solution (Bi-ISIS). Using the hardness of Bi-ISIS, Wang et al. proposed a new key exchange protocol, which is based on the lattice-based cryptography. In this paper, we signalize that Wang et al's lattice-based key exchange protocol is vulnerable to an attack, namely, man-in-the-middle (MITM...

Monitoring of Glacier in Alaknanda Basin using Remote Sensing Data
This study monitors the great Himalayas between the year 1998 to 2008 using satellite data. The Landsat satellite data was used to monitor variations in the area of glacier. Further the snow covered Area (SCA) of the part of Alaknanda basin was computed both for the winter and the summer season. The analysis for the same was done between 1998 to 2008. It was observed that the amount of decrease in the snow covered area was more in winter season compared to summer season. Which also shows the rate of retreat of glacier. This study also classifies the snow into two categories 1) Dry snow and 2) Wet snow. The pattern in the c...

Simulation of 2-Dimensional Subsurface Seepage Flow in an Anisotropic Porous Medium
In this study, we develop new analytical solution to estimate the transient behavior of phreatic surface in an anisotropic unconfined aquifer which is overlying a leaky base and subjected to multiple recharge and withdrawal. The hydrologic setting consists of a rectangular unconfined leaky aquifer adjacent to two water bodies of constant water head along the opposite faces of the aquifer. The remaining two faces of the aquifer have no flow conditions. The flow of seepage is approximated using two-dimensional Boussinesq equation, and solved analytically using mixed finite Fourier transform. Application of the new solution i...

Simulation and Parametric Optimization of Thermal Power Plant Cycles
The objective of the paper is to analyze parametric studies and optimum steam extraction pressures of three different (subcritical, supercritical and ultra-supercritical) coal fired power plant cycles at a particular main steam temperature of 600 0C by keeping the reheat temperature at 537 0C and condenser pressure at 0.09bar as constant. In order to maximize the heat rate gain possible with supercritical and ultra-supercritical steam conditions, 8 stages of feed water heater arrangement with single reheating is considered. The system is optimized in such a way that the percentage exergetic losses are reduced for the incre...
