TID and I-TD Controller Design for Magnetic Levitation System Using Genetic Algorithm
In this study, the design of Integral-Tilted-Derivative (I-TD) controller has been proposed for the Maglev system and its performance is compared with conventional Tilted-Integral-Derivative (TID) controller. In this study, TID controller parameters have been optimized through Genetic Algorithm (GA) and those set of values have been employed for the design of I-TD controller. A performance comparison between TID and I-TD controller is then investigated. The analysis shows the superiority of I-TD controller over TID controller in terms of maximum overshoot, gain margin and phase margin. The settling time remains almost same...

Numerical solution of Instability phenomenon arising in double phase flow through inclined homogeneous porous media
Publication date: Available online 27 April 2016 Source:Perspectives in Science Author(s): Ravi Borana, Vikas Pradhan, Manoj Mehta In the petroleum reservoir at an early stage the oil is recovered due to existing natural pressure and such type of oil recovery is referred as primary oil recovery. It ends when pressure equilibrium occurs and still large amount of oil remains in the reservoir. Consequently, secondary oil recovery process is employed by injection water into some injection wells to push oil towards the production well. The instability phenomenon arises during secondary oil recovery process. When water...

Effect of axial conduction and viscous dissipation on heat transfer for laminar flow through a circular pipe
Publication date: Available online 25 April 2016 Source:Perspectives in Science Author(s): Mohan Jagadeesh Kumar Mandapati The effect of viscous dissipation and axial conduction on heat transfer for laminar forced convection flow through a circular pipe was studied. Constant wall temperature boundary condition was imposed on the circular pipe and the flow is assumed to be hydrodynamically developed and thermally developing. Numerical solutions were obtained to observe the variations of non-dimensional bulk mean temperature, Nusselt number and wall heat from (or) to the fluid for Brinkman numbers±1.0,±0.5,±0.2, 0.0...

Energy Loss Minimization through Peak Shaving
Publication date: Available online 23 April 2016 Source:Perspectives in Science Author(s): Vaiju Kalkhambkar, Rajesh Kumar, Rohit Bhakar This paper presents an optimal placement methodology of energy storage to improve energy loss minimization through peak shaving in the presence of renewable distributed generation. Storage sizing is modelled by considering the load profile and desired peak shaving. This storage is suitably divided into multiple storage units and optimally allocated at multiple sites with suitable charge discharge strategy. Thus the peak shaving for maximum loss reduction is explored here. Renewa...

Pseudo-Random Interpretation of double hinged articulated tower under aerodynamic loading
Publication date: Available online 23 April 2016 Source:Perspectives in Science Author(s): Moazzam Aslam, Nazrul Islam Wind produces three different types of effects on structure: static, dynamic and aerodynamic. When the structure deflects in response to wind load then the dynamic and aerodynamic effects should be analyzed. The basic mode of an articulated tower is the motion characterized by rigid body sway compliant with a relatively high natural period. The higher modes of oscillation have smaller periods, and their influence is rather insignificant in the overall platform motion. Since the wind velocity spectr...
