Vadivel To keep the environment green, nowadays Indian government force automobile industry to comply the emission norms. The automotive manufacturers adopting latest technologies in the after treatment systems to achieve emission norms. In a BS III application light commercial vehicle exhaust system, diesel oxidation catalyst and muffler are used to reduce emission of the engine and noise level as well. Diesel oxidation catalyst reduces CO and un-burnt HC which are major emissions of IC engines. Muffler is used to attenuate the noise level. The industry uses CFD software to optimize the design of catalytic converter and muffler by analyzing the flow properties. Flow analysis helps us to identify the reverse flow in the system. So that the design can be optimized in such ways that reverse flow can be eliminated or minimized. This analysis helps us to optimize the geometric design of catalytic converter. In this percent work we analyse the pressure drop, uniformity index and flow across the system of LCV for BS III application. The components of exhaust system have been modelled in CATIA V5 which is 3D high end software. The substrate has been considered as porous medium for analysis purpose. Linear and quadratic co-efficient have been calculated and applied in boundary conditions for CFD analysis. The CAD models...
