Is the “flipped” pedagogical model the answer to the challenges of rural nursing education?: A discussion paper?
Rural Australian health services face significant challenges such as aging populations, access and retention of services and health practitioners as well as difficulties with staff training due to geographic isolation. Educational pedagogy, through a ‘flipped’ or ‘flipped’ classroom method has become popular in nursing literature whereby discussion surrounding its effectiveness, ability to increase performance, address learning outcomes and resolve the education-clinical practice divide is currently being explored. Effects of a skill demonstration video delivered by smartphone on facilitating nursing students' skill competencies and self-confidence: A randomized controlled trial study
The correct and appropriate performance of nursing skills by students can ensure patient safety and care quality. However, developing appropriate teaching and learning strategies to enhance nursing students' nursing skills and knowledge are challenging tasks for nursing faculty members. Nowadays, smartphones are popular mobile devices that are used on campuses by students and could be considered a potential tool to deliver learning materials to nursing students. Emotional intelligence among nursing students: Findings from a cross-sectional study
Emotional intelligence in nursing is of global interest. International studies identify that emotional intelligence influences nurses' work and relationships with patients. It is associated with compassion and care. Nursing students scored higher on measures of emotional intelligence compared to students of other study programmes. Incivility in nursing education is an unfortunate phenomenon affecting nursing students in all aspects of their educational experience. Students and their instructors are often ill equipped to deal with academic incivility and their lack of ability to handle such behaviors has proven detrimental to the future of the nursing profession. Mental illness is increasingly recognized as a global health problem. However, in many countries, including Nepal, it is difficult to talk about mental health problems due to the stigma associated with it. Hence a training programme was developed to train auxiliary nurse midwives, who otherwise are not trained in mental health as part of their pre-registration training in rural Nepal, on issues related to maternal mental health.
