Interleukin 36 gamma in psoriasis patients: an immunohistochemical study
Background
Psoriasis is a common inflammatory skin disorder in which immunity plays an important role.
Objective
To investigate the role of interleukin 36 gamma (IL-36γ) in psoriasis through evaluation of its immunohistochemical expression in lesional skin biopsies of psoriatic patients.
Patients and method
Forty psoriatic patients and 20 controls were included in this case–control study. Psoriasis area severity index score was used to evaluate psoriasis severity. Skin biopsies were taken from both groups and were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and immunohistochemically with IL-36γ monoclonal antibody stain...

Toll-like receptor 2: a possible role in the pathogenesis of oral lichen planus and hepatitis C virus infection, a case–control study
Conclusion
The increased TLR2 expression on PBMCs is probably involved in the pathogenesis of OLP with or without HCV infection, as well as in the pathogenesis of HCV infection ‘without OLP’. The idea that TLR2 can be the gate by which HCV induces OLP cannot be verified by this study. (Source: Journal of the Egyptian Women’s Dermatologic Society)

Clinical, histopathologic, and viral load study after treatment of plantar warts with 10% formaldehyde soaks versus liquid nitrogen cryotherapy
Conclusion
The results suggested that treatment of multiple plantar warts using either formaldehyde soaks or liquid nitrogen cryotherapy yields almost similar cure rates as well as similar reduction in human papilloma virus-DNA viral load. However, as formaldehyde soaks are equally effective and less costly, with no need for multible visits for clinic, their use may be favoured over cryoherapy as a treatment for multiple and extensive plantar warts. However, further researches should focus on the study of its safety and efficacy in a larger number of patients to support these findings. (Source: Journal of the Egyptian Wo...

Dermoscopic clues to diagnose some papulosquamous skin diseases
Conclusion
Dermoscopy could be considered a safe and rapid diagnostic tool that assists the clinical diagnosis and differentiation of frequently encountered PSD, and it could minimize the need for invasive skin biopsies with satisfactory reflection of the corresponding structure histopathologic alterations. Immunohistochemical expression of galectin-7 in hypertrophic scars and keloids
Conclusion
Galectin-7 may participate in the pathogenesis of hypertrophic scars and keloids through controlling both epidermal keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts. It could be a potential therapeutic target for the management of such scars. (Source: Journal of the Egyptian Women’s Dermatologic Society)

A comparative study between two topical treatments (tranexamic acid and flutamide) in the treatment of patients with melasma
Conclusion
Topical tranexamic acid and topical flutamide were both effective and safe therapeutic modalities for treatment of melasma with no side effects, but topical flutamide was less effective than topical tranexamic acid. (Source: Journal of the Egyptian Women’s Dermatologic Society)

Effectiveness of topical calcipotriol (0.005%) ointment with or without narrowband ultraviolet B phototherapy in patients with alopecia areata: a randomized evaluator-blinded placebo-controlled trial
Background
Alopecia areata (AA) is a chronic inflammatory disease, and autoimmunity is widely accepted as the pathogenesis of the same. Vitamin D deficit at receptor level has been noticed in patients with AA recently. Potential of topical vitamin D as a treatment option for AA may be evaluated in clinical trials.
Objective
To compare effectiveness and safety of topical calcipotriol (0.005%) with or without narrowband ultraviolet B (NBUVB) (311 nm) phototherapy with placebo in patients with AA.
Patients and methods
The patients with AA having any Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) score were randomized into three t...

Assessment of serum a proliferation-induced ligand level in patients with pemphigus vulgaris
Conclusion
APRIL may play a role in the early, active stage of PV development; active PV patients had significantly higher APRIL serum level than both controlled PV patients on treatment and normal healthy participants. APRIL could be considered as a potential marker of early activation of PV. Targeting the APRIL system may be a potential therapeutic goal in the management of PV.
