Diet quality in patients with end ‐stage kidney disease undergoing dialysis
ConclusionDialysis patients in this study had suboptimal diet quality. Improvements are required for better adherence to the EBPG. Increased consumption of n‐3 LCPUFA fatty acids may also be of benefit. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Administration of erythropoiesis ‐stimulating agents in patients undergoing haemodialysis: a time and motion study
ConclusionSwitching from a short‐acting to a long‐acting ESA in HD units leads to a significant reduction in time costs of health professionals in preparation and administration of ESAs by up to 80%.Practical application: This time and motion study has added further evidence on reduction of human effort by taking advantages of new research development, such as the long acting ESAs. Under ‐diagnosed chronic kidney disease in Jordanian adults: prevalence and correlates
ConclusionThis study demonstrates a high rate of under‐diagnosed CKD among Jordanians. Several demographic and clinical factors are linked with the development of CKD. Policymakers and healthcare providers need to establish an evidence‐based practice project to prevent and screen for CKD in Jordan. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Urea ‐based recirculation validation of the symmetrical palindrome catheter
ConclusionThe new symmetrical catheter presented low recirculation rates in a clinical setting. Since there is just a single tip, fluoroscopic placement in the right atrium is facilitated. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

The experience of waiting for a kidney transplant: A qualitative study
Conclusions: This study provides a descriptive summary of what it is like to live on dialysis while waiting for a kidney transplant from a deceased donor from the perspective of the person waiting. People are burdened by; uncertainty; the experience of the dialysis therapy; and the thought of the human cost of transplantation. These findings suggest that this cohort may benefit from strategies to relieve uncertainty such as effective communication from the treating team and peer support from the dialysis community. Could intradialytic nutrition improve refractory anaemia in patients undergoing haemodialysis?
ConclusionIDPN has a good role in improving refractory anaemia by significantly increasing haemoglobin levels, body weight, and serum albumin levels. The intervention also significantly decreases the MIS of patients. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Renal telemedicine through video ‐as‐a‐service delivered to patients on home dialysis: A qualitative study on the renal care team members’ experience
ConclusionThe impact of renal telemedicine was positive on the renal team members. The use of telemedicine has been demonstrated to make home dialysis delivery more efficient and safe. The learning from staff feedback could inform development of services elsewhere. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Symptom experience in non ‐dialysis‐dependent chronic kidney disease: A qualitative descriptive study
ConclusionsThis study suggests that patients with CKD stages 4 and 5 may have a high symptom burden. The finding that patients did not routinely report their symptoms emphasises a need for clinicians to incorporate symptom assessment into routine clinical consultations. Biomarkers associated with mortality in patients undergoing dialysis
ConclusionAlthough most patients in this centre are monitored by a nephrologist prior to starting replacement therapy, many nevertheless fail to achieve the biochemical targets recommended. One such parameter is albumin, which proved at the start of replacement therapy to be an independent predictor of mortality. Findings of this study show the need to intervene on certain biochemical parameters during the pre‐dialysis stage and at the start of dialysis, in order to improve survival in this group of patients. Intra ‐dialytic hypotension: Identifying patients most at risk
ConclusionDelta systolic blood pressure is clinically useful in identifying patients most at risk of IDH. Anti‐hypertensive medication use is associated with a lower delta systolic and a lower risk of IDH. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)
