Quality of life of kidney donors residing in kathmandu valley
ConclusionThis study concludes that living kidney donation does not impair the QOL of the donors but in turn may improve their mental health. Hence, this study supports the practice of living‐related kidney transplantation. ImplicationsBesides providing baseline data about donors in Nepal, this study may guide health professionals in counselling potential donors and assisting patients and their families to make informed decisions regarding transplant. It can assist health care planners in making policies concerning transplant. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

World Kidney Day 2016 Averting The Legacy of Kidney Disease–Focus On Childhood
World Kidney Day 2016 focuses on kidney disease in childhood and the antecedents of adult kidney disease that can begin in earliest childhood. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) in childhood differs from that in adults, as the largest diagnostic group among children includes congenital anomalies and inherited disorders, with glomerulopathies and kidney disease in the setting of diabetes being relatively uncommon. Children born early or who are small‐for date newborns have relatively increased risk for the development of CKD later in life. Persons with a high‐risk birth and early childhood history should be watched closely in...

Nurses ’ bereavement needs and attitudes towards patient death: a qualitative descriptive study of nurses in a dialysis unit
ConclusionsMany dialysis nurses appear to have strong religious or spiritual belief systems and this contributes to their acceptance of death, although there also appears to be a degree of death avoidance. The study has highlighted the need to provide adequate bereavement support for dialysis nurses. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Developing life skills in haemodialysis using the guided self ‐determination method: a qualitative study
ConclusionThe positive changes identified in this qualitative evaluation are promising and indicate that GSD‐HD has a potential worthwhile to be tested further among patients with ESRD. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Evaluating hazardous waste generation in for‐profit outpatient haemodialysis centres
ConclusionsAs hazardous waste production is high, we must examine the reasons why it is growing. Information about haemodialysis waste production and management is scarce and difficult to access. Having an evaluation of its production would motivate further research, especially as end‐stage kidney disease is increasing, and whose main long‐term treatment, haemodialysis, produces hazardous waste and employs substantial natural resources. Minimising its environmental impact is not mission impossible. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Using megestrol acetate to ameliorate protein‐energy wasting in chronic kidney disease
ConclusionAfter reviewing the available literature, the benefits of using MA should be evaluated against the potential side effects. For further examination of MA's potential benefits, long‐term, prospective, large clinical trials should be carried out. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)
