Linguistic validation of the 5d itching scale to arabic in patients with end‐stage kidney disease
ConclusionThe 5D‐IS was found to be a reliable tool for assessing itching in Arabic patients with uraemic pruritus. Due to its simplicity, this tool can easily be used by clinical staff to assess the severity of pruritus. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Patients' experience and perceptions of polypharmacy in chronic kidney disease and its impact on adherent behaviour
ConclusionsNon‐adherence with prescribed medicines in CKD is a complex phenomenon, which has implications for clinical outcomes and cost. Adherent behaviour may change over time. Further research in this field is needed. No single intervention is likely to enhance adherence for all and clinicians should consider a variety of options to improve adherence with prescribed medicines. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Validation of a screening instrument for the fear of injection in dialysis patients
ConclusionThe DFIQ appears to be a good predictor for the presence of FOI. Application to PracticeNurses can use this validated screening instrument to detect FOI. The cut‐off score provides a good indication for psychological counselling. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Do iron guidelines translate into good clinical practice for patients on haemodialysis?
ConclusionsIron guidelines are not translating into good clinical practice for patients on HD. This situation may be improved by updating the CARI guidelines (as has recently been carried out for haemoglobin targets), introduction of more consistent dosing protocols across hospitals and greater assessment of safe levels of cumulative iron and ferritin. Iron deficiency anaemia in chronic kidney disease
ConclusionsWhilst iron supplementation is necessary for CKD patients with IDA, iron metabolism and utilisation can be affected by factors such as infection or inflammation. Iron is essential element for all life, it can be toxic to cells through the process of oxidative stress. The recommended tests for IDA may be affected by factors such as infection and inflammation. Alternative tests are available, which may be a more accurate indicator of IDA as they are not affected by external factors. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Symptom burden in chronic kidney disease: a review of recent literature
ConclusionPeople with CKD experience a high symptom burden, although little is known about the burden for people with CKD Stage 4 and for those with CKD Stage 5 receiving peritoneal dialysis. This review recommends that a full range of symptoms be assessed for those at different stages of CKD. Improved understanding of the burden of symptoms can be used as the basis for treatment choices and for identifying priorities which are likely to contribute to a better quality of life and improve the quality of care.
