The happiness and subjective well‐being of people on haemodialysis
ConclusionSubjective well‐being can be an important indicator of people's life quality to be considered by clinicians and nephrology researchers in future studies. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

IgA NEPHROPATHY IN PATIENTS RECEIVING A RENAL TRANSPLANT
ConclusionThe rate of post‐transplant IgA diagnosis in our case series was 11%, and IgAN was diagnosed late in the course of transplantation. In most cases, IgAN manifested as haematuria and non‐nephrotic proteinuria, without renal graft dysfunction, and this picture might explain late indication of graft biopsies. The 10‐year patient survival rates were excellent. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Tattoo of vascular cannulation site as a self‐cannulation aid
ConclusionPermanent tattoo of the skin to guide cannulation can used when a fistula is difficult to palpate or if a further superficialisation procedure is not desired. Patients have to be made aware that the markings are permanent and might outlast the fistula. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

A multi‐dimensional support programme for patients with diabetic kidney disease
ConclusionThe multidimensional support programme, addressing health‐promoting factors and self‐management in small patient groups, has a potential to effectively reduce HbA1c and may have some beneficial effects which contribute to health promotion in patients with diabetic kidney disease. This mode of a multidimensional support programme should continue to develop, with longer term follow‐up and further evaluations with appropriate research designs. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Evaluation of the role of nurse practitioners in masterplan
ConclusionLifestyle change is difficult to maintain during five years follow up. Besides a shift of attention in study goals, the relationship with the patient also changed over time. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Self‐reported medication adherence in patients with end‐stage kidney disease undergoing online‐haemodiafiltration
ConclusionsNon‐adherence to therapeutic regimens in patients with ESKD is associated with higher levels of triglycerides and higher blood pressure and are, therefore, at a higher cardiovascular risk. Moreover, we found that age and depression status are important variables in non‐adherence to therapeutic regimens. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Detection of malnutrition in patients undergoing maintenance haemodialysis: a quantitative data analysis on 12 parameters
ConclusionWe now screen patients biannually for serum albumin, nPCR, Kt/V, handgrip measurement of the shunt‐free arm, dry body weight, age and time since initiation of MHD. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Sharp versus blunt dialysis needle use with buttonhole method: open randomised trial
ConclusionThis study demonstrates an increased incidence of failed cannulation using a blunt needle compared with using a sharp needle, although this was not significant. In addition, the use of a sharp needle did not result in any increase in complications. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Survey of staff opinions about extended haemodialysis treatment time and service implications
ConclusionThere is conflict between the understanding that extended TT is clinically beneficial and its prescription & delivery to patients. Enrolment to studies examining HD delivery strategies may be influenced by service provision and staff attitudes. In centre HD has been designed to maximise patient throughput and we may need to consider more flexible settings in which to deliver longer treatment time: Home HD maybe a solution. Differences in illness representations in patients with chronic kidney disease
ConclusionIllness representations differ with CKD stages and symptom burden. The patients in earlier disease stages or with fewer symptoms did not hold as strong beliefs about their illness as being a threat as those in advanced stages or with more symptoms. Self‐blame emerged as a common causal attribution. Patients did not always relate symptoms to CKD, therefore this study identifies a gap in patients’ disease knowledge, especially in earlier stages of the condition. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)

Patients’ and relatives’ experiences of peritonitis when using peritoneal dialysis
ConclusionsOverall, peritonitis was a distressing experience that participants sought to prevent. However, there was some confusion amongst participants about the signs and symptoms of the infection and further education for patients and their families is thus crucial. A formal medication reconciliation programme in a haemodialysis unit can identify medication discrepancies and potentially prevent adverse drug events
ConclusionMedication discrepancies appear to be common in patients on haemodialysis. Formal interprofessional medication reconciliation practice models are essential to identify discrepancies and prevent patients from experiencing adverse drug events. (Source: Journal of Renal Care)
