Association of chromosomal region 9p21.3 with Coronary Artery Disease – A local perspective
Publication date: Available online 22 December 2016 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Kalpana Bellary, Dwarkanath K. Murthy, Dayasagar Rao Vala, Surekha Rani Hanumanth, Mohammad Kaleemullah Quraishi Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) has been a major health concern in the Asian Indian population affecting millions of families. The 9p21.3 chromosomal region has shown robust association with CAD in several ethnic populations. The 9p21.3 locus doubles the risk of premature CAD and is known to be independent of traditional risk factors. The risk allele associated with CAD lies in a 58,000 base pair re...

Adult type ALCAPA – A rare presentation
We report a rare congenital coronary anomaly diagnosed in a 53-year-old male who presented with recent onset breathlessness, 2-D echocardiography revealed dilated single right coronary artery, left ventricular dysfunction with regional wall motion abnormality in left anterior descending coronary artery. On coronary angiography and computed tomography, the typical anatomy of ALCAPA was revealed. Cardiac MRI revealed predominant viable myocardium. Patient underwent successful corrective surgery with improvement of ventricular function at one-month follow up. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

A rare case of cardiac lymphangioma
Conclusion Imaging with MDCT and MRI aid in the proper diagnosis of pericardial lymphangioma. A meticulous planning is required for surgical excision of this lesion. We report this case because of its rarity and to highlight the role of imaging and the surgical challenge in view of its location and proximity to coronary vessels. Dual right coronary artery – A rare congenital coronary artery anomaly
Publication date: Available online 22 October 2016 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Naresh Kurakula, Rajasekhar Durgaprasad, Vanajakshamma Velam A 55-year-old woman presented with typical angina at rest of 2 days duration. She underwent coronary angiogram (CAG) which revealed non-dominant left coronary artery (LCA) and mid part of left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) had significant stenosis and left circumflex artery had insignificant disease. Contrast injection in right coronary sinus revealed dual right coronary arteries with two separate ostial origins from same sinus and both ar...

Percutaneous intervention for chronic total occlusion of subclavian artery
Publication date: Available online 24 October 2016 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Palanimuthu Ramasamy, J.S. Bhuvaneswaran, Arunkumar Panneerselvam A 48-year-old male with aortoarteritis presented with recurrent episodes of syncope for past 6 months. Angiogram revealed 100% ostial occlusion of right subclavian artery with subclavian steal syndrome. The challenges involved in percutaneous revascularization of chronic total occlusion of subclavian artery are presented in this report. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Giant anterior mature mediastinal teratoma with gastrointestinal tract organoid differentiation: A rare presentation
We report a case of such a rare giant tumour (30×15cm) in a young adult male of 18 years who presented with right-sided chest pain of 3 years duration. Surgical removal is the definitive treatment of a mature anterior mediastinal teratoma. The patient was operated successfully with complete removal of the tumour. As superior vena cava (SVC) was encased in the tumour wall causing SVC syndrome, partial resection of the pericardium was required to free SVC from the tumour. The defect in the Pericardium was repaired to prevent herniation of heart. In the Post-operative period, patient developed recurrent pneumothorax of the l...
