BTK interventions: How to make most with limited technology – Adopted from an oral presentation from APVSC VII
Publication date: Available online 17 December 2015 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Jaafer Golzar Failure to successfully cross a total occlusion is one of the major causes for unsuccessful percutaneous revascularization. In the United States, there are several different technologies, but not every hospital has every technology. There are other ways to treat these patients without expensive technologies and that is with the skills and persistence. An ideal endovascular tool should be cost effective, efficient, and safe and should maintain good outcomes. There are many endovascular tools, one...

Patient and graft selection for EVAR
Publication date: Available online 15 December 2015 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Clifford J. Buckley, Shirley D. Buckley Introduction Endovascular Aortic Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) is comparable to direct surgical repair; in that, it provides durable protection from rupture. Unlike open aneurysm repair, EVAR minimizes the need for invasive monitoring and ICU time, shorter length of hospital stay, and has a lower perioperative mortality/morbidity when compared to open repair, 1–3% mortality and 3–5% morbidity. Although EVAR is applicable to 75–80% of patients with abdominal aortic aneu...

Streamliner Multilayer Flow Modulator stents as a therapeutic option in the management of complex thoraco-abdominal aortic pathology report from Global SMFM Registry
Publication date: Available online 7 December 2015 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Sherif Sultan, Edel Kavanagh, Florian Stefanov, Mohamed Sultan, Victor Costache, Ala Elhelali, Violet London, Edward Diethrich, Niamh Hynes Complex thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA) patients remain a challenge irrespective of treatment choice. The Streamliner Multilayer Flow Modulator (SMFM) is an alternative modality of treatment and it is conceptually at variance with conventional treatment modes. Preliminary results show that treatment of infra-renal AAA, juxta-renal AAA, Stanford Typ...

Ultrasound-guided vascular access
Publication date: Available online 8 December 2015 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Prem Chand Gupta, Pradeep Burli Vascular access is an integral part of patient care in hospitals. It may be required for diagnostic angiography, for endovascular interventions, for patient monitoring and for administration of fluids, antibiotics and nutrition. Conventional methods of access based on anatomical landmarks and vessel palpation are associated with higher failure rates, more attempts and higher rate of complications. Real time ultrasound imaging can provide higher success rate, faster access and ...

Efficacy of Multilayer Flow Modulator in treatment of thoracic aortic pseudoaneurysm in a case of Behçet's disease
We report an original observation of a symptomatic distal thoracic aortic pseudoaneurysm with haemothorax which revealed BD. We treated it with the implantation of a Multilayer Flow Modulator combined with double therapy: immunosuppressants and steroids. Two years after the procedure, the patient is in good condition with a follow-up CT scan showing total disappearance of aneurysmal sac and patent visceral arteries.
