Pathophysiologic role of ischemia reperfusion injury: a review
Publication date: Available online 19 June 2017 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Vishal Kumar Vishwakarma, Prabhat Kumar Upadhyay, Jeetendra Kumar Gupta, Harlokesh Narayan Yadav Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is the major cause of morbidity and mortality all over the world. World health organization (WHO) in 2002 assumed that IHD may be the major leading cause of death by 2020. An estimated 17 million people died from cardiovascular diseases (CVS) globally. Of these deaths, 7 million people died by ischemia heart disease and 6.2 million by stroke. Ischemia is defined as an insufficient supply o...

Vitamin d levels and its supplementation in patients of heart failure
Conclusion Although vitamin D supplementation of 60,000 IU weekly for 12 weeks improves the serum vitamin D levels but it has no beneficial effects on improvement of left ventricular function. Trials with larger sample size and longer duration of follow up are needed to establish firmly or refute a causal relationship between vitamin D supplementation and changes in echocardiographic parameters. Use of the same size-balloon technique via the radial approach for repositioning and re-implantation of inadequately expanded and dislodged drug eluting stent
Publication date: Available online 22 May 2017 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Hüseyin Katlandur, Hüseyin Özdil, Kerem Özbek, Ahmet Keser, Şeref Ulucan Stent dislodgement over the delivery system is an important and serious complication of percutaneous coronary revascularisation. Several methods have been described previously for the treatment of stent dislodgement. We herein report a case of balloon rupture during stenting that was not deployed properly. The same-sized balloon was used for re-implantation without any complications. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Predictors of coronary slow flow in stable coronary artery disease
Conclusion PCSF was common in smokers and diabetic patients and this phenomenon is associated with high PLR, NLR, Serum uric acid and Hs.CRP. The only independent predictor of CSFP was neutrophil-to lymphocyte ratio (NLR). (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Utility of coronary artery calcium scores in predicting coronary atherosclerosis amongst patients with moderate risk of coronary artery disease
Conclusion We propose that coronary artery calcium scoring may be considered for use as a primary screening modality in patients with moderate risk of coronary artery disease. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

The role of ECG in localizing culprit vessel occlusion in acute ST segment elevation myocardial infarction with echocardiographic correlation
Conclusions ECG proved to be relatively sensitive and specific investigation for diagnosis of acute STEMI. 2D-Echo supplements and supports ECG by elaborating the regions involved in MI. Therefore both ECG and Echo should be used in conjunction for better assessment of prognosis and management of the patient. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Intra vascular ultrasound findings in drug eluting stent restenosis following emergent PCI for acute coronary syndrome – Gender based analysis
Conclusions The occurrence of ISR was higher in women. Women had higher TLR and lower mean vessel size. In 46% of women and 39% men, a mechanical factor with sub optimal stent deployment was found. Longer stented length, diffuse disease, calcification and Type B/C lesion type were associated with under expanded and undersized stents. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)

Challenges in lead position and stability of single entry through cephalic route by sheathless technique in dual chamber pacemaker implantation
Publication date: Available online 6 April 2017 Source:Journal of Indian College of Cardiology Author(s): Santosh Kumar Sinha, Prakash Kumar, Gaurav Singhal, Karandeep Singh, Ramesh Thakur The axillary/subclavian venous approach has a potential for complication as inadvertent damage by the exploring needle to the structures nearby to the vein may cause significant complications. On the other hand, the greatest benefit of the cephalic approach – the risk of pneumothorax is nil and the risk of long-term lead failure due to crush injury through the subclavius muscle/ligament is also eliminated. Although multiple lead...

The role of multidetector computed tomography coronary angiography with calcium score and Framingham Risk Score in evaluation of rheumatoid arthritis patients with chest pain
Conclusion Screening of RA patients with combination of clinical scoring using FRS and CAC using non-invasive multidetector CT could allow early detection of patients at risk for acute cardiovascular events. However, TAS acts better for the prediction of TAP. (Source: Journal of Indian College of Cardiology)
