Patient perceptions on the effectiveness of preconception counseling
ConclusionThis study suggests that PC increases patient confidence in their own knowledge regarding pregnancy. Patients who do not go through PC tend to see the experience as less valuable than those who do. Additional study with a larger sample size is needed to see if these trends are significant. Case study: the contribution of 3D ultrasonography in the diagnosis of agenesis of the corpus callosum
ConclusionA combination of 2Dand 3D-US has considerable advantage over 2D-US in the diagnosis of fetal ACC. 3D-US provides an invaluable tool for the prenatal diagnosis and management of ACC, and its offline networking capabilities may improve healthcare delivery systems by extending the benefits of prenatal diagnosis of cerebral malformations to poorly served areas where an MRI is not available. Ultrasonic uterine volume and menopausal status as risk factors for uterine prolapse after sacrospinous hysteropexy
ConclusionAlthough vaginal sacrospinous hysteropexy is an effective and safe method of surgical treatment for uterine prolapse, the success rate is higher among postmenopausal women. Further, the success rate is higher among those with lower ultrasonographically determined uterine volumes. Therefore, surgeons should consider these findings when deciding the treatment options for their patients with uterine descent. (Source: Journal of Evidence-Based Women’s Health Journal Society)

The effect of vaginal hysterectomy with and without sacrospinous ligament fixation on the female sexual function: a retrospective study
ConclusionVH with SSF was considered as an option in an elderly patient who was not sexually active, as it lowers the rate of vault prolapse. However, in younger patients, VH alone has a better effect as it does not interfere with the normal vaginal axis. (Source: Journal of Evidence-Based Women’s Health Journal Society)

Evaluation of the potential role of inherited and acquired thrombophilia in unexplained infertility
We examined 70 women with UI and compared them with a control group of 70 women who had conceived spontaneously with at least one uneventful pregnancy and no history of miscarriage during the period from November 2011 to March 2013. All women were tested for the presence of inherited [factor V Leiden (FVL) mutation and deficiencies in proteins S and C and antithrombin III (ATIII)] or acquired (lupus anticoagulant and anticardiolipin antibodies) thrombophilic factors. ResultsAt least one inherited or acquired thrombophilic factor was detected in 42.86% (30/70) of women with UI compared with 8.57% (6/70) in the control group...

Vaginal versus abdominal hysterectomy in patients with a history of pelvic surgery
ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of vaginal hysterectomy compared with abdominal hysterectomy in women who had undergone a previous pelvic surgery. Patients and methodsFifty-four patients undergoing hysterectomy for benign conditions were randomized to either the vaginal or the abdominal group. Each group of patients had in common the fact that they had undergone previous pelvic surgery. ResultsParticipants in the vaginal hysterectomy group had a shorter operating time (73.7 vs. 107.8 min, P (Source: Journal of Evidence-Based Women’s Health Journal Society)

The effect of metformin therapy on serum leptin and resistin levels in women with polycystic ovary syndrome
This study aims to investigate the effect of metformin on leptin and resistin levels in women with PCOS. Patients and methodsThis case–control study was conducted on 96 patients attending Al-Zahraa University Hospital outpatient clinic; they were classified into cases (the PCO group) (diagnosis based on the Rotterdam consensus criteria) and controls. The PCO group was further classified into two groups: Group I included obese PCO patients (32 patients) with a BMI of 30 kg/m2 or greater and group II included lean PCO patients (24 patients) with a BMI of 25 kg/m2 or less. Controls (group III) included obese (40 patients) (...
