Impact of genital mutilation on sexual function in a cohort of women from upper Egypt
Objective: To investigate the impact of genital mutilation on the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in a cohort of Upper Egyptian women. Study design: This was a case–control hospital-based descriptive study Patients and methods: A questionnaire was used for data collection from 320 participants with genital mutilation (cases) and 320 participants without genital mutilation (controls) from March to June 2015. Assessment of participant’s sexual function was performed using an Arabic version of the female sexual function index (FSFI). Results: Only about 15 and 40% of the participants in the case group and the control ...

Escitalopram versus black cohosh for relieving hot flashes in nondepressed menopausal women
Conclusion: Escitalopram 10–20 mg/day is more effective compared with black cohosh at a dose of 20–40 mg/day for reducing hot flashes (frequency and severity) in nondepressed menopausal women; both are tolerable and safe. (Source: Journal of Evidence-Based Women’s Health Journal Society)

Comparing different methods for diagnosis of human papilloma virus infection of the cervix in Egyptian women
Conclusion: PCR-ISH is the golden standard for the diagnosis of HPV. The advantage of ISH is that it is performed directly on tissue, which allows localization of the target sequences and correlation with clinical appearance. When augmented by PCR, the sensitivity can be increased, but it has a major disadvantage of being expensive. Our study proved that conventional cytology and histopathological examination were sensitive tests for detection of HPV. Colposcopy had lower sensitivity and specificity but this can be improved by taking multiple biopsies. PCR swab showed the highest specificity and the lowest sensitivity as b...

A predictive scheme to assess the outcome of IVF/ICSI cycles in poor responders: an observational study in Egypt
Introduction: In developing countries where the cost of IVF/intracytoplasmic sperm injection cycles is relatively high, the need to predict the outcome of the cycles becomes crucial, especially in cases of expected poor response. Thus, in this study we aimed to set up a scheme to predict the outcomes of IVF in poor responders. Materials and methods: This observational cohort multicenter study included 928 poor responders according to the Bologna criteria. They were divided into two groups: group I (poor responders 35 years). The main outcome were the number of MII retrieved, the number of oocytes fertilized, the number of...

The impact of using gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist for triggering final oocyte maturation in antagonist-treated intracytoplasmic sperm injection cycles on women at high risk of developing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome
Conclusion: GnRH agonist trigger should be the protocol of choice as regards its benefit in preventing OHSS, with special rescue measures for the luteal phase. (Source: Journal of Evidence-Based Women’s Health Journal Society)

Ovarian sensitivity index is a new cost-effective parameter for ovarian responsiveness in an IVF/ICSI cycle
This study was an observational one. Setting: The study was conducted in University Hospital IVF Center. Patients: A total of 731 patients undergoing IVF/ICSI treatment cycle were included in the study. Results: The OSI correlated with ovarian reserve parameters, positively with antral follicle count and anti-Müllerian hormone, and inversely with follicle stimulating hormone, age, and BMI (P (Source: Journal of Evidence-Based Women’s Health Journal Society)

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of early initiation of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist and long GnRH agonist protocol in oral contraceptive-pretreated polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles. Design: The study design was a randomized controlled one. Setting: The study was conducted in the tertiary university fertility care unit Materials and methods: Seventy infertile PCOS patients under the age of 35 years coming for the first ICSI trial from January 2012 to December 2014 were randomly allocated to an ovar...
