Epithelioid Osteosarcoma of the Maxilla: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Epithelioid osteosarcoma is an uncommon variant; only 4 cases have been reported in the jaw area, 2 of which were in the maxilla. A 22-year-old woman, in the eighth month of pregnancy, presented to the oral surgery clinic with a mass in the right maxilla that had rapidly expanded over the past 3 months. Computed tomography scans showed an ill-defined sclerotic destructive lesion that formed bone matrix in its soft tissue extension. Microscopic examination of the lesion revealed malignant epithelioid cells with osteoid deposits. The tumor cells were shown to have pale cytoplasm, vesicular nuclei, and prominent nucleoli and ...

A Peripheral Dentinogenic Ghost Cell Tumor With Immunohistochemical Investigations and a Literature Review-Based Clinicopathological Comparison Between Peripheral and Central Variants
In conclusion, similar cytokeratin expression in both the tumor and surface epithelium can be used to support oral surface epithelial origin, while CK14 positivity confirms the odontogenic derivation of the peripheral DGCT described in the report. In contrast to central DGCT, the peripheral DGCT is a distinct lesion with characteristic clinicopathological profile and nonaggressive behavior. (Source: International Journal of Surgical Pathology)

Malignant Melanoma With Osteoclast-Like Differentiation
We describe a case of metastatic melanoma demonstrating osteoclast-like differentiation in the lung. The lung nodule was diagnosed as a metastatic melanoma by histological features and confirmed by immunohistochemistry. Resection specimen showed numerous multinucleated giant cells exhibiting osteoclast-like morphology dispersed throughout the lesion. Both the neoplastic melanocytes and giant cells were reactive for HMB-45, Melan-A, and S100. In addition, the multinucleated neoplastic giant cells were also reactive for the monocyte/macrophage lineage markers CD68 and CD163, and alkaline phosphatase, an enzyme present in nor...

Primary Ureteral Thyroid Transcription Factor 1-Positive Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma: Case Report and Review of the Literature
Upper urinary tract neoplasms comprise only 5% of urinary malignancies overall, the overwhelming majority showing an urothelial histology. Nonurothelial lesions represent 1.9% of upper tract neoplasms, and small cell carcinomas (SmCCs) only account for a minute fraction of them, with few cases reported in the literature to date. In the genitourinary tract, these lesions are most frequently found in the urinary bladder, where they tend to show a mixed histology with a characteristic small cell neuroendocrine component that is positive for chromogranin A, synaptophysin, and CD56 immunostains. Urinary SmCCs are almost invaria...

Malignant Transformation of Pelvic Endometriosis: Case Series and Review of the Literature
Endometriosis affects 4% to 13% of all women of reproductive age although its true incidence is unknown. The ability of endometriosis to transform into malignancy, first described by Sampson in 1925, is a rare occurrence affecting 1% of lesions with ovary being the primary site in 79%. The authors describe 3 premenopausal women without risk factors for malignancy presenting with ovarian and/or extraovarian endometrioid adenocarcinoma. All of them demonstrated features of pre-/coexisting endometriosis but malignancy was preoperatively suspected in only 1 instance. Postsurgical follow-up of the cases did not document any rec...

DOG1 Expression in Low-Grade Fibromyxoid Sarcoma: A Study of 11 Cases, With Molecular Characterization
We describe a case of a 53-year-old male with a large pelvic and pararectal mass, which on biopsy showed a moderately cellular spindle cell neoplasm within fibrous stroma. Immunohistochemistry at the referring center showed diffuse and strong expression of DOG1 with negativity for other markers. After referral to a tertiary center, repeat DOG1 immunohistochemistry again showed diffuse expression, but MUC4 was also positive, and this was confirmed to be LGFMS, harboring FUS-CREB3L2 fusion transcripts by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and FUS rearrangement with fluorescence in situ hybridization. In view of ...

GLUT-1 Expression in Cutaneous Basal and Squamous Cell Carcinomas
Glucose uptake is a key regulating step in glucose metabolism and is mediated by facilitative glucose transporters (GLUTs), and GLUT-1 is the predominant glucose transporter in many types of human cells. Cutaneous basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) represent the most common skin cancer in Egypt. The present study aimed at evaluation of the pattern and distribution of GLUT-1 in cutaneous BCC (16 cases) and SCC (16 cases) by means of immunohistochemistry. GLUT-1 was expressed in all SCC (100%) and in 62.5% of BCC. Membranous pattern of GLUT-1 was seen in 62.5% of SCC and 31.25% of BCC. Positivity (P...

Neuroendocrine Neoplasms of the Major Duodenal Papilla With Focus on Histopathological Features and Prognosis
Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) are generally indolent and progress slowly. However, NENs of major duodenal papilla are uncommon. We retrospectively assessed relevant clinicopathological findings in 9 consecutive patients treated for major duodenal papilla NENs by pancreaticoduodenectomy in our hospital from 2009 to 2013. Eight of the 9 patients (89%) presented with painless obstructive jaundice and one with intermittent fever, attributable to pancreatitis, without jaundice. The diagnostic accuracy was 75% (6/8) for biopsies obtained under duodenoscope guidance. Enhanced multidetector computed tomography detected 89% (8/9)...

Axillary Lymphadenopathy: An Outstanding Presentation for Breast Implant-Associated ALK-Negative Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma
We report the case of a 50-year-old female presenting with an axillary lymphadenopathy 8 years after breast prostheses implantation. Clinical examination, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging detected no mammary lesions. The lymph node showed intrasinusoidal infiltration by large pleomorphic cells expressing CD30 and lacking ALK-immunoreactivity. Tumor staging was negative. Cells with identical features were found in the ipsilateral periprosthetic capsule. The patient was treated with CHOP and radiotherapy, and she is alive without evidence of disease after a 30-month follow-up. The diagnosis of an ALK-negative ALCL ...

Nodular Lymphocyte-Predominant Hodgkin Lymphoma in a Warthin Tumor of the Parotid Gland: A Case Report and Literature Review
Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) associated with Warthin tumor (WT) is extremely rare, accounting for only 3 cases of classical HLs. Here, we report for the first time the occurrence of a nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) involving the lymphoid stroma of a WT of the parotid gland. Pathogenesis of WT is controversial, with both a nodal and a parenchymal possible origin. On the other hand, extranodal involvement by HLs is uncommon. In our case, the coexistence of a WT and of a NLPHL within its stroma and in cervical lymph node emphasizes the importance of a careful evaluation of the lymphoid tissue in WT in order ...

Primary Mixed Adenoneuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Gallbladder in a 55-Year-Old Female Patient: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinomas (MANECs) of the biliary tract are rare tumors, and to date only a few cases arising in the gallbladder have been reported. Their histogenesis is a matter of debate, since the biliary tract normally lacks neuroendocrine cells. However, the immunohistochemical identification of nonneoplastic neuroendocrine cells in both biliary adenocarcinomas and intestinal metaplasia has been documented. Here we report a case of a 55-year-old female patient presenting with right upper quadrant pain, cholelithiasis, and a gallbladder mass identified after cholecystectomy. The histopathologic examination ...
