Comparing the efficacy and safety of Crocus sativus L. with memantine in patients with moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease: a double‐blind randomized clinical trial
ConclusionsIn addition to its favorable safety profile, 1‐year administration of saffron extract capsules showed to be comparable with memantine in reducing cognitive decline in patients with moderate to severe AD. Confirmatory studies with larger sample sizes and longer follow‐up periods are warranted. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. (Source: Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental)

New insights on the antidepressant discontinuation syndrome
ConclusionsThis review raises awareness of the long‐term negative aspects of non‐compliance and inappropriate antidepressant discontinuation, and suggests possible approaches to “design‐out” a risk for ADS. It reveals intuitive and rational ideas for antidepressant drug design, and provides new thoughts on antidepressant pharmacology, ADS risk and how these affect long‐term outcome. Total antioxidant capacity is significantly lower in cocaine‐dependent and methamphetamine‐dependent patients relative to normal controls: results from a preliminary study
ConclusionStimulant‐dependent patients had significantly lower antioxidant capacity relative to controls, suggesting that they may be at greater risk for oxidative damage to the brain and other organs. Effects of two doses of glucose and a caffeine–glucose combination on cognitive performance and mood during multi‐tasking
ConclusionThese data suggest that co‐administration of glucose and caffeine allows greater allocation of attentional resources than placebo or glucose alone. At present, we cannot rule out the possibility that the effects are due to caffeine alone Future studies should aim at disentangling caffeine and glucose effects. © 2014 The Authors.
