Effects of acute buspirone administration on inhibitory control and sexual discounting in cocaine users
ConclusionsThese findings indicate that acutely administered buspirone has little impact on behavioral measures of inhibitory control and impulsive sexual decision‐making. Considering previous findings with chronic dosing, these findings highlight that the behavioral effects of buspirone differ as a function of dosing conditions. rs7968606 polymorphism of ANKS1B is associated with improvement in the PANSS general score of schizophrenia caused by amisulpride
Abstract A recent genome‐wide pharmacogenomics study showed that the rs7968606 single‐nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of the ankyrin repeat and sterile alpha motif domain‐containing protein 1B (ANKS1B) gene approached the threshold of statistical significance. The aim of this study was to determine the association between the rs7968606 SNP of ANKS1B and the treatment response to amisulpride in schizophrenia patients. In total, 154 participants were enrolled from six university hospitals in Korea. All the subjects were interviewed before and after 6 weeks of amisulpride treatment with the aid of the positive and negati...

Association between overall rate of change in rising breath alcohol concentration and the magnitude of acute tolerance of subjective intoxication via the Mellanby method
ConclusionsThese results present some of the first evidence that faster increases in BrAC may be associated with greater acute tolerance, as indicated by greater reduction in subjective intoxication across the limbs of the BrAC curve. This greater reduction may, in turn, promote heavier drinking and/or engagement in behaviors for which one is unfit (e.g., driving after drinking). Effectiveness of atomoxetine and methylphenidate for problematic online gaming in adolescents with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
ConclusionsBoth MPH and ATM reduced the severity of Internet gaming disorder symptoms, and this reduction was correlated with impulsivity reduction, which also resulted from both ADHD medications. These findings suggest impulsivity plays a critical role in the development of problematic online gaming. (Source: Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental)

Effectiveness of agomelatine on anhedonia in depressed patients: an outpatient, open ‐label, real‐world study
ConclusionAgomelatine was shown to be effective on anhedonia, depression, and anxiety in subjects with major depression. The pragmatic design of the study reflects real‐world clinical practice providing interesting insights into routine care management. (Source: Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental)

Are deficits in cognition associated with psychotic ‐like experiences after cannabis?
ConclusionsThose who report psychotic/dysphoric experiences after cannabis have subtle inefficiencies in their cognitive processes. The multiple factors which predict vulnerability to psychotic‐like experiences after cannabis require further investigation. (Source: Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental)

Attentional biases in patients with alcohol dependence: influence of coexisting psychopathology
ConclusionsIn a clinical sample of alcohol‐dependent patients, further investigation is required to explore whether these attentional biases reflect current drinking status or factors indicating prognosis. (Source: Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental)

Haloperidol increases false recognition memory of thematically related pictures in healthy volunteers
Abstract Dopamine can modulate long‐term episodic memory. Its potential role on the generation of false memories, however, is less well known. In a randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled experiment, 24 young healthy volunteers ingested a 4‐mg oral dose of haloperidol, a dopamine D2‐receptor antagonist, or placebo, before taking part in a recognition memory task. Haloperidol was active during both study and test phases of the experiment. Participants in the haloperidol group produced more false recognition responses than those in the placebo group, despite similar levels of correct recognition. These finding...

Systematic review of blood transcriptome profiling in neuropsychiatric disorders: guidelines for biomarker discovery
ConclusionsDetailed consideration of statistical analysis in the early stages of experimental planning is critical to ensure blood‐based biomarker discovery and validation. Statistical guidelines are presented to enhance implementation and reproducibility of machine learning and gene network analyses across independent studies. Future studies capitalizing on larger sample sizes and emerging next‐generation technologies set the stage for moving the field forwards. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Captagon: use and trade in the Middle East
ConclusionFurther investigations are needed on the role that psychoactive drugs play in terrorist attacks and civil war zones. Unless a comprehensive methodological strategy, inclusive of unconventional methods of research, is implemented, it will not be feasible to face such a threat to humanity.
