A randomized controlled study of the effects of adding ultra-low dose naloxone to lidocaine for intravenous regional anesthesia
Conclusion The addition of ultra-low-dose naloxone 100ng to lidocaine for IVRA in upper limb surgery, prolonged the duration of sensory and motor block, and reduced tourniquet pain, as well as intraoperative and postoperative analgesic consumption. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Anaesthesia management in a patient with a severe biotinidase deficiency for congenital scoliosis repair
Publication date: Available online 17 October 2015 Source:Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia Author(s): Ebrahim Almasri, Rashad AlQasim, Puja Deshpande A 17year old female patient with a biotinidase enzyme deficiency, cerebral palsy, aphamis, generalized hyperreflexia and spasticity, epilepsy and mental retardation came for the severe kyphoscoliotic deformity correction. Biotinidase enzyme deficiency is an autosomal recessive disorder with incidence of 1:60,000 neonatal birth. Treatment with biotin results in a rapid biochemical and clinical improvement. This enzyme deficiency involves neurological, neuromuscular, r...

Anesthetic management of a case of retroperitoneal tumor with pemphigus vulgaris with multiple comorbid conditions
We present a case of 50year old female with a diagnosis of intraabdominal mass suffering from pemphigus vulgaris, myasthenia gravis, hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus. Extra care to protect skin and mucus membranes from trauma during procedures is essential. Adrenocortical suppression following prolonged steroid therapy is another hazard to be tackled in the perioperative period. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Efficacy of Dexmedetomidine for endotracheal tube tolerance, analgesia and sedation – A prospective randomised double blind controlled trial
Conclusions Patients receiving Dexmedetomidine tolerated the endotracheal tube better, required lesser morphine, were adequately sedated, arousable, stable haemodynamics and lacked respiratory depression. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Comparison of post-operative recovery with or without pre-extubation throat wash in patients undergoing intranasal surgery under general anaesthesia
Conclusion Throat wash, after removal of throat pack in nasal surgery, ensures clearer airway and decreases the risk of adverse respiratory events in immediate post-extubation period. The adverse sequel due to un-recognised debris in the upper airway is minimised resulting in smooth recovery and rapid discharge from the post-anaesthesia care unit. A rare case of normotensive HELLP syndrome complicated with massive ascites: Spontaneous resolution
Publication date: Available online 26 September 2015 Source:Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia Author(s): Ahmed Samy El-Agwany, Ahmed Abdelhadi Abdelsadek HELLP develops in approximately 0.1–0.8% of pregnancies overall and as many as 15–20% of patients with HELLP syndrome do not have antecedent hypertension or proteinuria. The risk factor for development of ascites is extensive structural damage of the microvasculature in patients complicated by HELLP. The aim of this study is to report a case with HELLP syndrome complicated with massive ascites after vaginal delivery that eventually resolved spontaneously. (Sourc...
