Degree of cervical mobility differs or not when using alternative way of intubation: Intubating laryngeal mask or classic laryngoscope
Conclusion The ILM (Fastrach) is a satisfactory alternative to the currently used methods of airway management in cervical spine injuries and reduces movement of the cervical spine. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Ketofol versus sevoflurane for maintenance of aesthesia in paediatric cardiac catheterization: A prospective double blind study
Conclusions Both propofol–ketamine and sevoflurane provided effective sedation and analgesia during pediatric cardiac catheterization. But propofol–ketamine combination was superior to sevoflurane because the incidence of agitation, nausea and vomiting in patients given sevoflurane was significantly higher than in ketofol group. Extending labor epidural analgesia using lidocaine plus either dexmedetomidine or epinephrine for emergency cesarean section
Conclusion Epidural dexmedetomidine is comparable to epinephrine as an adjuvant to epidural lidocaine in fastening the onset of surgical anesthesia and resulted in better intraoperative analgesia and in longer duration of sensory and motor block in the settings of converting labor epidural analgesia for emergency CS. Dexmedetomidine versus haloperidol for prevention of delirium during non-invasive mechanical ventilation
Conclusion Dexmedetomidine is more effective than haloperidol for prevention of delirium during NIV with lower incidence of endotracheal intubation and shorter ICU and hospital stay. Bradycardia is more frequent with dexmedetomidine use. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Optimizing surgical field during cochlear implant surgery in children: Dexmedetomidine versus Esmolol
Conclusions In our study both dexmedetomidine and esmolol were effective in reducing MABP, and lowering the heart rate providing dry surgical field and ensured good surgical condition during cochlear implant surgery in pediatric patients. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Multimodal analgesia with pregabalin and dexmedetomidine in morbidly obese patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy: A prospective randomized double blind placebo controlled study
Conclusions The combination of preoperative oral pregabalin and intraoperative dexmedetomidine infusion decreased intraoperative fentanyl use and ensured postoperative better pain control and less postoperative opioid consumption. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Effect of intrathecal meperidine and intravenous amino acid infusion in reducing intraoperative shivering during spinal anesthesia: A prospective randomized trial
Conclusion Amino acids infusion decreased the incidence of shivering, increased peripheral and core temperature than intrathecal meperidine, which seems a safer alternative, more effective with lesser side effects than intrathecal meperidine in parturients undergoing cesarean section under spinal anesthesia. Comparative study between transdermal nicotine and melatonin patches on postoperative pain relief after laparoscopic cholecystectomy, a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
Conclusion The use of preoperative TDN (15mg/16h) or TDM (7mg/8h) was an effective and a safe adjuvant for acute pain after surgery. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Comparative study between hydrocortisone and mannitol in treatment of postdural puncture headache: A randomized double-blind study
Conclusion Both intravenous hydrocortisone and mannitol intravenous infusion were efficient in reducing postdural puncture headache within 48h. Hydrocortisone showed earlier and significant relief of headache. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

The outcome of anaesthesia related cardiac arrest in a Sub-Saharan tertiary hospital
Conclusion Anaesthesia related cardiac arrest and mortality were linked to cardiovascular depression from halothane overdose in our institution. The burden can be reduced by improving on establishing standard monitoring in the perioperative period, and a team approach to patients care. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Ventilator associated pneumonia caused by extensive-drug resistant Acinetobacter species: Colistin is the remaining choice
Conclusions XDR AB-VAP is endemic in our ICU without a definite factor associated with increased risk of infection. Given that almost half of the strains are also resistant to tigecycline, colistin appears to be an appropriate first-line antimicrobial drug in critically ill patients developing VAP based on invitro results.
