Red herring: Acute back pain after combined spinal epidural for labor analgesia
Publication date: Available online 24 August 2017 Source:Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia Author(s): Yoong Chuan Tay, Kian Hian Tan Symphysis pubis diastases complicate 1:300 to 1:30,000 pregnancies. Peripartum pain in chronological sequence with labor epidural analgesia often attracts instinctive causation and distress. Predisposing risk factors include macrosomia, short second stage of labor, forceps use, multiparity, small pelvis, intense uterine contractions, previous pelvic ring pathology and trauma. A gestational diabetic primigravid parturient presents with acute post-partum back pain after an uneventful analgesi...

Proposal of a score to detect the need for postoperative intensive care unit admission after bariatric surgery
Conclusions We propose a scoring system for risk stratification, in which some of the well-known predictor risk factors are included in a simple way to help identify those high-risk patients undergoing bariatric surgery. Trial registry number: NCT02976649. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Analgesic efficacy of ultrasound guided versus landmark-based bilateral superficial cervical plexus block for thyroid surgery
Conclusion BSCPB (US guided or landmark-based), performed under general anesthesia, effectively decreased peri-operative analgesic requirements in thyroid operations. However, there was no significant difference in analgesic efficacy or safety between US guided and landmark based BSCPB. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Rocuronium versus dexmedetomidine as an adjuvant to local anesthetics in peribulbar block: A double blind randomized placebo controlled study
Conclusion Adding 5mg rocuronium to local anesthetic mixture provides more rapid onset of corneal and globe akinesia than 50μg dexmedetomidine. Adding dexmedetomidine decreases IOP and provides sedation. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)
