Excessive sweating following intrathecal μ agonists: Effective atropine management
Publication date: Available online 20 May 2016 Source:Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia Author(s): Alaa Mazy Many thermal distortions may accompany the profound extended analgesia of intrathecal μ agonists. Hypothermia is the commonest, but a syndrome including a profuse sweating was also reported. Conservative management for this sweating extends patient suffering more than 6h. Other treatment options showed variable success rates. In a case series, atropine sulfate showed effective sweat suppression following intrathecal morphine 0.3mg or fentanyl 25mcg. Treatment options and possible mechanisms of sweating are revi...

Attenuation of hemodynamic response to laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation with two different doses of labetalol in hypertensive patients
Conclusion Both doses of labetalol (0.15mg/kg and 0.3mg/kg) attenuate hemodynamic response to laryngoscopy and intubation in dose dependent manner. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

A novel manoeuvre in a case of foreign body esophagus: An unusual management of a usual presentation
We describe a case of an eight year old male child, who presented to the emergency department with history of ingesting a marble, and a novel yet simple manoeuvre, to minimise chances of downward displacement and maximise chances of successful and atraumatic extraction with minimal manipulation of trachea and esophagus. One year prevalence of critically ill burn wound bacterial infections in surgical ICU in Egypt: Retrospective study
Publication date: Available online 25 April 2016 Source:Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia Author(s): Hossam Mohamed Introduction Burns are one of the most common and devastating forms of trauma. Patients with serious thermal injury require immediate specialized care in order to minimize morbidity and mortality. (1) The main purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of bacterial wound infection in critically ill burn patients in surgical intensive care unit in Egypt. Objectives The aim of this study was to determine the bacterial isolates in sever burn wound infection, suitability to antibiotics and there ...

Combined hyponatremia and hypocalcemia after intravascular absorption of 1.5% glycine during operative hysteroscopy. A case report
We report a case of intravascular absorption of more than one liter of 1.5% glycine. A 36years old female developed metabolic acidosis, hyponatremia and hypocalcemia during operative hysteroscopy scheduled for resection of a uterine fibroid. Serum sodium reached down to 119mmol/l and ionized calcium to 0.898mmol/l. Serial estimations of arterial blood gases and serum electrolytes were followed. Management was successful in preventing serious side effects. Meticulous monitoring of distending media input/output balance remains the cornerstone in prevention of intravascular absorption. Assessment of the analgesic potency of ropivacaine 0.2% versus ropivacaine 0.5% in transversus abdominis plane block after cesarean delivery
Conclusion Ropivacaine 0.2% when used in TAP block provided postoperative analgesia similar to ropivacaine 0.5% in TAP block after cesarean delivery. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Dexmedetomidine versus ketofol effect on the incidence of emergence agitation associated with sevoflurane-based anesthesia in children undergoing orthopedic surgery
Conclusion We found that ketofol in a dose (propofol 1mg/kg in a combination with ketamine 0.25mg/kg) was as effective as dexmedetomidine in a dose of 0.3μg/kg for prevention of EA, but with better analgesic effect and without delaying of emergence. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Anaesthesia)
