Combined procedure of heart transplantation and ascending aorta replacement
We report the combined procedure of heart transplantation and ascending aorta replacement using the donor’s ascending aorta, in a 70-year-old man who was not diagnosed with Marfan syndrome. This combined procedure can be performed successfully, providing a potentially life-saving heart transplant for patients with aortic disease of different etiologies. Completion lobectomy after radical segmentectomy for pulmonary malignancies
Conclusions Completion lobectomy may become more difficult approximately 5 weeks after segmentectomy, due to severe adhesions, but it can be performed safely with careful manipulation. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Fabricated bronchial artery embolization for hemoptysis using a coil
Conclusions Bronchial artery embolization for hemoptysis was preformed in a safe and minimally invasive manner with positive results over both the short- and long-term, thus underscoring its utility as a form of treatment. Furthermore, by combining the use of long and short coils, we were able to reduce the number of coils necessary for the procedure, and thus reduce the time and cost involved. Thromboelastogram reduces blood use by inspecting coagulation in heart surgery
Conclusion Blood transfusion is an important issue after coronary artery bypass, and because of the decreased amount of blood products used, a rotational thromboelastography-based blood transfusion algorithm should be applied in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass. Midterm results of anatomic repair in a subgroup of corrected transposition
Conclusions Results of atrial switch-Rastelli procedures in this subgroup of patients with corrected transposition are satisfactory but still imperfect. Mitral regurgitation might predict a poor outcome. Long-term follow-up is necessary. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Medium to long-term echo follow-up after ventricular septal defect device closure
Conclusion Transcatheter closure of perimembranous and muscular ventricular septal defects is effective, however, these patients need to be followed up regularly to detect device-related problems, specifically, aortic and tricuspid valve regurgitation. Repair of aortic coarctation in infancy: A 10-year clinical experience
Conclusion Repair of aortic coarctation in infancy by resection with end-to-end anastomosis can be performed with a low mortality rate and a low incidence of recoarctation, and it provides the optimal prognosis for coarctation in infancy. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Primary leiomyoma of the lung: an exceptional localization
Leiomyoma is a benign smooth muscle tumor usually encountered in the uterus. Primary pulmonary localization is extremely rare in adults and children. However, it must be included in the differential diagnosis of any nodular lung lesion. Its treatment is surgical, with good long-term results. Here, we report a case of leiomyoma of lung parenchyma diagnosed in a 26-year-old man. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Massive malignant pleural effusion due to lung adenocarcinoma in 13-year-old boy
A 13-year-old boy with no risk factors for lung cancer presented with a massive left-sided pleural effusion and a mediastinal shift on chest radiography and computed tomography. A chest tube drained bloody pleural fluid with an exudative pattern. A pleural biopsy and wedge biopsy of the left lower lobe revealed mucinous adenocarcinoma in the left lower lobe wedge biopsy and metastatic adenocarcinoma in the pleural biopsy. The patient is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Radiotherapy is planned after shrinkage of the tumor. Adenocarcinoma of the lung is very rarely seen in teenagers or children, especially in the absence o...
