Single versus multiple lung biopsies for suspected interstitial lung disease
Conclusion A single lung biopsy is sufficient to arrive at a diagnosis of interstitial lung disease when the sampling site is guided by high-resolution computed tomography and a multidisciplinary approach. Multiple biopsies are less cost-effective, offer no added advantage in terms of diagnostic yield, and are associated with more morbidities and a longer hospital stay. Impacted thoracic foreign bodies after penetrating chest trauma
Conclusion Retained intrathoracic foreign bodies due to penetrating chest trauma are treated mainly conservatively unless there is another indication for chest exploration. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Incidence of late atrial fibrillation in bilateral lung versus heart transplants
Conclusions We documented an increased probability of late-onset atrial fibrillation among bilateral orthotopic lung transplant patients compared to orthotopic heart transplant patients. This was a hypothesis-generating study that suggests a potential role for cardiac autonomic innervation in the genesis of atrial fibrillation. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Fontan circulation over 30 years. What should we learn from those patients?
Conclusions For long-term Fontan survival, timely total cavopulmonary connection conversion and medication to decrease ventricular volume and pressure load might be important. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Contemporary endovascular treatment of type B aortic dissection in China
Conclusions Current evidence suggests that use of endovascular stent-grafts for type B aortic dissection in China is feasible and safe with low rates of perioperative complications and short-term mortality. However, a standardised reporting system and long-term follow-up data are lacking. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

New technique for fixing rib fracture with bioabsorbable plate
Fixation of a bone fracture with a bioabsorbable plate made of poly-L-lactide and hydroxyapatite has received attention. We adopted this technique for a rib fracture by bending the plate into a U-shape and fixing it with suture through the holes in the mesh of the plate and holes that are drilled in the edge of the fractured rib. The suture is also wound around the plate. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Surgical resection of a huge ruptured mature mediastinal teratoma
We report the unusual case of a 24-year-old woman presenting 15 weeks postpartum with a huge ruptured mature mediastinal teratoma superinfected with Mycobacterium avium. Catastrophic bleeding from the superior vena cava was encountered on mobilization of adhesions attached to it, requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenator support for control. Histopathological examination confirmed a 12.0 x 7.8 x 4.5-cm differentiated teratoma without malignant transformation. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)
