Risk factor for respiratory death after lung cancer surgery in octogenarians
Conclusion The overall survival rate of octogenarians undergoing lung cancer surgery is acceptable. However, because octogenarians with a low body mass index have a significantly higher risk of death due to respiratory disease, surgeons and pulmonologists should take this into account when performing postoperative follow-up in these patients. Hyperbilirubinemia after cardiac surgery: An observational study
Conclusions Postoperative hyperbilirubinemia is common in patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass and is associated with high hospital mortality. The factors associated with its occurrence are increased preoperative bilirubin level, preoperative prothrombin time, cardiopulmonary bypass time, aortic crossclamp time, and blood transfusion units. Persistent hyperbilirubinemia is associated with a worse outcome than early transient hyperbilirubinemia. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Surgical outcome of hypoplastic left heart syndrome with intact atrial septum
Conclusions The hybrid operation for hypoplastic left heart syndrome with intact atrial septum may have improved the neonatal outcome and Fontan completion rate in this extremely high-risk group of patients, but the long-term outcome remains dismal. Considering the late mortality related to pulmonary complications, aggressive fetal intervention to create a nonrestrictive atrial septal communication to promote normal development of the pulmonary vessels may be the last resort to improve the long-term outcome. Relationship of thymic changes and complications after congenital heart surgery
Conclusion Patients with absent thymic CD20 expression had significantly more postoperative complications and cardiac obstructive defects than those with positive CD20 expression. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Endoscopic stenting for double bronco-pleural fistula after lobectomy
We describe a patient who underwent a right upper lobectomy and systematic hilar-mediastinal lymphadenectomy for lung adenocarcinoma complicated by 2 bronchopleural fistulas. The lesions were sited at the upper lobar stump and the pars membranacea of the intermediate bronchus. The patient was successfully treated by placement of an endobronchial prosthesis (initially a self-expanding prosthesis and subsequently, a Dumon prosthesis) and a pleural chest drain, to avoid a potential right pneumonectomy.
